Xbox One April update out for all now

I guess they need more time with the vm component to make it work on the software which runs Xbox 1.

I even watched the april update video on Microsot's Youtube channel. In some ways I wish I was in the preview program, I even got an inv from Xbox Live. But I don't want a Beta OS running my console.

I guess everyone can tell I'm hyped for voice messaging. The Xbox 1 Dashboard did prompt me to download "Update Console" the file was 271MB big.

 

I wouldn't be surprised when the vm component is ready, that there may or may not be a humongous Update for this, maybe something like a 2GB size Update XD. I've noticed game update sizes are ridiculous compared to Xbox 360. They do have to work hard to
force the software running Xbox 1 to add this feature in. Some comment 'they put a PC OS on an Xbox console'. On Wikipedia, the operating system is much more Windows based like Windows 8, but it has 3 OS (xbox/windows kernel/hypervisor). But if we can get
it to understand 'Xbox Language' more, then that's great. The Xbox 1 runs on a completely different OS and software compared to Xbox 360, and they did state you can also do it with both Xbox 1 and Xbox 360. I'm ok if it gets delayed til next month.

 

No update is only 271mb with vm works ok for me wonder why they delayed it

The culprit, I'd say, is the software running the Xbox 1 console. They need more time to reprogram it. It's Tuesday evening for me and when I turned on my console to check for updates, the Dashboard said update available, "271MB". The OS version I have after
I updated it is listed on the previous page.

I guess they also need to work around Xbox Live connectivity too since Xbox 360 uses 15,000 Xbox Live servers worldwide while Xbox 1 has 300,000+ Xbox Live servers worldwide (Azure), and since it may not be as straight forward as txt messages, and since
Xbox 360 uses different audio codec to Xbox 1 hardware. If telecommunications companies can pull it off you get voice messaging on phones regardless of what model cell phone/ smartphone you have, vm is possible with your telecommunications provider. Xbox Live
is also about being social and having a variety of ways to express yourself. Adding this feature in for me will make Xbox 1 more fun. As soon as I learnt about what was proposed for the April Update, the only two words I really cared about is Voice Messaging.
It has been top of the official feedback site requests as well.

When vm does roll out for everyone soon, we vm fans should have a BIG celebration on here. When people are overly happy about a feature people like to use, it's like joy to Microsoft knowing that one of their hobby-related services they provide (Xbox) is
bringing us some happiness, and believe me, we need that these days. Some people must get sick of me sometimes, but I want to be here when there's some interesting stuff. I want to get 8 hours sleep tonight, so am jumping on my #360 and #1. Tuesday 7th April

I like the VM feature, but it's not great when most of the people you try to send it to can't even hear it because they're not also in the preview program...

 

ive already blocked several people because of voice messaging... thanks for not giving me the option of opting out MS...

 

Not having the option of opting out? I thought that was already available in your privacy settings before VM was even a thing on the One, iBakez - all you had to do was limit who you receive messages from.

 

I hope the above poster is right. I mnow they said April's update would come in 2 waves; i just hope we are closer to the update. I can not wait for dedicated servers for party chat and Voice Messages.

@ ibakez....Opting out of VM? That is flat out silly. People send hateful text messages as well. Why don't we use that logic and just remove all communication features with the exception of party chat. And even then, if you tick someone off bad enough
they will continue to send you a party invite.

 

it takes a lot longer to send a hate text than a hate VM, that's just a fact Since the release of the one I have not received any form of SPAM or hate messages apart from the odd M2AF and those people are generally repeat offenders so get blocked anyway!

I never wanted VM to return, it was perectly fine the way it was (in my opinion) but i do see why others want it. They should just give us the option to not allow receiving VM if we dont want it without having to go through privacy settings as there are
people on my friends list i still wouldnt allow to send

These are just my feelings on it though, and i have no intention of causing an argument of whatever over it as we all have different opinions..

Too many times MS just implement cr@p without actually realising people want OPTIONS... If you are going to put something in, give people the option to turn it off, keeps everyone happy, not just the whiners on the feedback section which equate to less than
1% of the gaming population imo

 

Huh? I've sent voice messages to people on the 360 and even they could hear them and respond. Works great for me.

^^Because the 360 has VM options turned on - If you arent in the preview, you dont have it at the moment on the one (i think)

 

@ ibakez. I am not looking for an argument. And I mean no disrespect. I just do not get the logic. We all have had different experiences and handle things differently. In my experience I received roughly 65/35 text to voice message harassment. And
it personally does not bother me. I would just delete random VM. (If it was a friendly message generally a friend request would follow). I don't see the big deal, and why everyone is so sensitive about a message from someone you don't know, and will more
than likely never come across.

 

I noticed in settings its says text and voice from friends only or everyone.

 

I've sent voice messages from my X Box One (I'm in preview.) to people on the 360 and they've replied; no problems either way.

Edit: It defaults to text. You have to back out and hit the microphone to send a voice message. It could be a bit more intuitive...maybe that's what they're working on?
