xbox one apps and games hang on quickstart

Whenever I leave my console in quick start mode I invariably have to end up hard resetting it. The problem I have is that it doesn't start games or apps it lets you press them but it never goes full screen and if I then press the nexus button it flips
back to the home screen position with whatever I selected in that pane, but inactive. The problem does not happen if the console is set to cold start. It also becomes uncomfortably slow at starting up games and apps that I would expect to start faster (non
internet ones).

I am having problems with my apps, everytime i want to start one the screen freezes, but my xbox still works i can use my guide with no problem i can even use the quickstart of my game from my xbox guide please help idk what could be the problem (i tried
clearing my cache) that's my apps problem. I am having problems with games too when i launch a game asks me to do an update but it never stops downloading... HELPPPP!!

Sorry to hear it. This happens to me occasionally as well. Just press the Start button on the controller while highlighting the game/app and choose Quit. Wait 30 seconds and then restart. You should be good to go without hard resetting it.

 

Thanks for the response, unfortunately I can't do what you suggest as the game/app has failed to even begin starting so there is no option to quit it.

It is as if the title card for the game/app has been called and the system has failed to put the game/app to fullscreen and the system then hangs, at this point i can hit the nexus button and it will move me to the central home screen position and if i then
click the game/app it will go fullscreen but will not start and will have a box overlaid on image where the minimised version was and a thin (couple of pixels) crack down the right side where you can see parts of the desktop behind.

 

I've got the exact same problem and don't have a work around. Can someone please help or elaborate?

*edit* Can't even turn off the console via controller... Voice control doesn't work at all

 

I turned off the console and unplugged it, after another cold start it now works normally again. Huge shock moment, to be honest. Hope it was the only hiccup of this kind.

 

Also had the same issue. I don't use speech to shut down anymore. Using my controller to turn it off seems to work. If I boot up under a quick start usually even the controller won't work properly. I hold the button on the controller to turn off the console
all it does is turn off the controller. Hopefully Microsoft is working on it.

 

I turned off the console and unplugged it, and left it off for 4 hours. problem persists, only thing i have not tried now is a factory reset.

 

Same problem except that I have to unplug power supply to unlock home screen and restore function to controller. No Error code, just freezes at home screen.

 

So I finally did the factory reset option, and for 5 days my xbox one worked smoothly with games and apps opening instantly from quickstart.

Alas today the problem reappeared and I had to hard reset it to regain control.

Does anyone know how long it would take them to replace/return my xbox if I send it back?

 

around ~ 2 weeks depending what option you choose and from what region you from.

 

But the hanging and crashing at the start of the game is not linked to HW problems, it usually comes from corrupt data in the cache. Here are few steps that you can try

1) clearing persistent storage at settings>Disc&blu-ray>Persistent storage

2) after 1st been done then hold down the power button ~10 seconds (will clear the cache) and then just turn on and play game.

Let me know if that works or not.
