Hey all i just wanted to say the simple thing about install a externall seagate 4tb 3.o usb is just not as easy as any you tube shows, what i hadnt done after unboxinx and plugging it in was to format the drive, right rather easy well here comes the dummie
part , just cause it says external hdd found and only read media dont back out hit the external hdd in the system settings, click on it like going into it , that then will pop up the options to format the drive. after that pretty easy from there. lessons
to my friends at xbox support please tell the person needing thing help they need to actually click the so call media only drive in order for the format to start

Xbox one randomly reformatting external hdd

Just like the title says, I'm having issues with my Xbox One and the external HDD. So far it's done it twice where I've signed on and everything from my drive was wiped without me touching it. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this issue and if
there is a solution for it that maybe I'm just not seeing.

External HDD

Yes External HDD support is available. The External HDD must be at least 256GB in size and use USB 3.0. Keep in mind that the External HDD will have to be formatted for use with the Xbox One console.

Because ive got the same drive as you (except 3TB one) and I got promoted to format when i plugged it in

Got it from amazon for £130

Best thing ive brought this year gone are the days of removing old games before installing new ones.

Easy to format all you do is plug it in and your xbox dose the rest for you.

Ive got my xbox on instant on mode and the external HDD turns on and off when i turn the xbox on or off.

How can you tell exactly how much and what is on your HDD? Sure you can make assumptions. With Xbox 360 you have easy HDD access via settings. True they will need to bring out external HDD support preferably next year. Didn't know the OS and other resources
would need over 100GB of the consoles HDD. Too me that's a little excessive. And it's a 5400rpm HDD not a 7200rpm which has a faster read speed and non-replaceable. Might get a 1TB Seagate external HDD when they bring out support for it. Hopefully you can
install updates/add-ons to external as well because those file sizes could be bigger than file sizes I've had to deal with on my Xbox 360 Slim 250gb console.

Ah yes, the "adapter" program. Kinda like the one they used to allow Files to be moved from the old MS Xbox 360 proprietary HDD to their new Xbox 360 proprietary HDD. Elephant in the room says, Kinect is dead.

Oh, I am the only one who noticed the price of the larger HDD is a little skewed when simply considering using a much cheaper existing external HDD with larger capacity?
