Can someone tell me why the thread titled: Does xbox one offer System Link (to physically connect 2 or more Xbox one's together for LAN multiplayer)? is closed?

I too am very disappointed by the lack of system link on Xbox One! Imagine the following.

Picture this...

You've packed the car with your Xbox and a flat panel monitor and headed out into the country for 4 days. A bunch of your mates have done the same thing, you've planned it for months. You arrive at the country house isolated from everyone, the rain is
drizzling down lightly as you unpack the car. You are in a good wine region, but you have packed a stack of beers and spirits for the days ahead. You set up your 8 or so consoles, there are cables everywhere. You settle in with the log fire warming the room,
a glass of red wine in hand and prepare to spend the next 4 days uninterrupted smashing your mates on MW3 and a bunch of other games. No girlfriends, no wives, just mates (OK that last bit sounds a little camp).

We have been doing this for years with the Xbox 360 and will continue to do so, but are ROYALLY disappointed that we cannot do this with the Xbox One. A game like Titanfall would be ideal for a LAN type set up. There is no internet where we are in the
country and even if it did, I doubt that having 8 people hooked into it would be feasible. This is just one scenario! What about all those guys in the army, who are out in the middle of nowhere and just want some R&R on their consoles... POOR FORM Microsoft..
POOR FORM.

:)

System linking

This is specifically for back ops 3 zombies. I'm trying to system link with my brother, we are both offline, we can find each other on the "find LAN game" but when we go to join each other, it is party is not joinable. Any solutions?

Most people don't go out to the country to play games or even hook up a lot of tech. They can do that stuff at home. Xbox One and System Link ;)

6. OK I think its all clear to me now.

People who belong to counties with large populations and good internet infrastructure don't care about off line gaming because they don't have to put up, day in and day out, with substandard connection speeds.

For those of us who don't have that luxury, seeking the level playing field of LAN gaming IS important. Removing this functionality is a step backwards.
4 days uninterrupted smashing your mates on MW3
Not an Xbox One title.
And those would be...? There are very few titles out on Xbox One that aren't also available on 360.
Really? You keep a rack of Azure compute cloud servers in your back pocket?

Titanfall runs server-side. Without the servers, there is no Titanfall. It's not an offline game.
They
have Internet on their bases.

The decision to drop local multiplayer is not MS's alone. If devs and publishers do not see a demand, they're not going to add the feature.
For those of us who don't have that luxury, seeking the level playing field of LAN gaming

It's an acknowledgement by the developer and publisher community
that the feature's cost does not generate enough revenue to be worth pursuing any longer.

Hi Ice,

I was not trying to suggest that MW3 was Xbox One. Merely that it is an example of a system linkable game.

Again, a bunch of other games refers to what could be done on the 360.

Regarding Titanfall. My observation is based on the fact that it is a minimum 3 versus 3 maximum 5 versus 5 game, which sits very nicely in the LAN arena. It's probably why they have made the beta for the private match. If it was made to sit, as you say,
on the server side this is probably because there was simply no scope to design it any other way because Xbox one does not have system link.

I agree with your next few points as you back up my initial point well. Lack of demand. They are simply catering for what makes them money. Large populations with quality internet infrastructure make them money.

I assume you have heard the term the squeaky wheel gets the oil? It would seem that system link users are in the minority, ergo a small squeak and no oil. I accept this, but it does not change the fact that my gaming experience (and that of the 20 or so
people that I LAN with) is being compromised by the lack of vision of this large organisation.

It's built to run on Azure because it's effectively a dedicated-server-only
game. The AI and other functions are handled by the server.
Visit
http://feedback.microsoft.com if you want to leave MS feedback. They announced the site today at E3. It's a better way for them to track requested features.

10. Thanks for the link. I'll take a look.

Re Titanfall. Yes, I understand that it is all built for online only play. My observation is merely that it would be a fantastic game on LAN if was designed to do so. Unfortunately it is not.

Why not? Kids who don't remember LAN parties are probably too young to have mortgages, wives or children, competing for their unwind time. Those of us who get away from the grind for a weekend, really enjoy uninterrupted LAN parties.

Is LAN a threat to Live? Not likely. After LAN players still take the games home to play alone later.

Does EA really need to know who plays and when? Maybe that information could be sent via host partyleader, rather than every individual player requiring a connection and Live account logged in.

If LANners want a game, they check the back of the cover for system link compatible. COD has it = bang ten copies sold straight up. Battlefield doesn't = one copy sold, then bitched about at the LAN party.

http://feedback.microsoft.com/ server doesn't appear available yet.

Just a note: I (and many others) would happily buy a LAN compatible version of Titanfall, if/when made available. Anyone wanting to collect where the current version fails LAN customers might want to get on that. There's a niche gap in the gaming market,
ripe for the picking.

13. Xbox One and System Link

I will add another note: When I (and my 20 fellow LANers) were deciding which of the next gen consoles were were going to purchase (XBox One or PS4) I can tell you straight up that we would have chosen whichever console had a system link type facility. As
it turns out, neither of them did. I find it curious that a company would decide to drop a feature that could potentially give them an edge over the competition in what is a fairly cut throat market. It's not like they had to plan and design it from scratch.

In the end I purchased an Xbox one because of some notion of loyalty. I don't feel that loyalty is being reciprocated.

14. Actually, they did have to plan and design them from scratch. In any case, my guess is that the demand for the feature wasn't worth the cost to implement and as a result, you're left out as a part of the unfortunate minority. Yes, it would be nice to have,
I agree with you there - but we can't have everything and they can't implement everything that we want. If that were possible, we'd be living in more of a utopian society and it's sadly obvious that we're not, so let's just be grateful for the numerous amount
of features that both companies do offer with their consoles.

15. I assume you mean they WOULD have had to plan and design it from scratch. DID implies that they built it and decided not to implement it.

I'm not a tech head, but I would have thought that the essential layout for LAN networking is there. Sure, they might have had to reprogram it to suit the new system. Would have thought that any programmer worth his salt could knock something out fairly
easily.

I'm not sold on the idea of it costing too much. You only have to design it once then tweak it. Over the life of a console platform (the 360 has been around since 2005, so almost 10 years) I would have thought the initial development would be a drop in the
bucket.

Lets face it.. there are bigger reasons why Microsoft wants to steer away from off line play.. its the cost alright, but I don't think it has anything to do with redesigning a LAN protocol.
