Xbox One and 'no standby' mains power savers devices?

Morning all,

My Xbox One arrives in a few days and I'm new to this - I'm coming from a NIntendo Wii.

I have one of these 'no-standby' mains power saver devices that shuts off the mains power to seleected devices when the TV is off. The living room router and the Bluray player all have their mains power cut a few seconds after the TV is turned off.

The Tivo has to stay on as it does some of it's clever stuff over night or when the V might otherwise be off and that's fine. Should the Xbox One have live mains power at all times or is it happy to have no mains power for periods of time?

The power supply should always have a light on it.

Orange light on power supply/no light on Xbox One = Xbox One is off

White light on power supply/no light on Xbox One = Xbox One is in standby (charge controllers, download updates, etc.)

White light on power supply/white light on Xbox One = Xbox One is on

When I plug in my Xbox One the power supply goes from orange(standby) to white for just a split second then the light goes off and I have no power at all

 

Hi there the best way to have it is on instant on- in this state the xbox one will automatically download updates when they become available. You can put it on energy saver if thats whats comfortable but you will have to manually download updates. Enjoy

Thanks, that sort of answers my question. I guess what I should have said is "Is there any technical reason why the thing should have live mains power all the time"

I've looked closely how this standby saver works, by the way. It simply cuts the power to all connected devices 30 seconds after the TV goes off.

For a device that relies on it's hard disk for it's OS, I guess that such power interruption would not be a such a good thing. The Nintendo doesn't care, it's all solid state in there and recovers from a sudden power down just fine.

I think I might jusy use the energy saver as you describe. It apparently uses only half a watt.

 

One thing, you should plug your xbox one directly into the wall and not a power saver device.
