    When i get round to connecting my cable box with my xbox one can i still watch tv without xbox being turned on

    Sorry to hear that. I have some very basic 101 troubleshooting, if you don't mind. Hold down the power button on the Xbox One for 1 minute (a complete shut down). Unplug the Cable box for 1 minute. Use the HDMI cable that came with the Xbox One between the
    Xbox One and the Cable box. Turn on the Xbox One then the Cable box. Other than that, have you tried any configuration with the cable box at all? Other than that, go Cable box HDMI Xbox One HDMI TV. Let me know!

    correct. It also depends on how you set it up too. With mine I can have my xbox off then watch tv like normal.

    I have a friend that uses a splitter. So the cable runs from the set top box, to the splitter, then to the tv. Then another cable comes from the splitter to the Xbox, to the tv.

    (hopefully that makes sense lol)

    That way, he can choose to watch cable on just his tv, or through his xbox. Depending on which he prefers.

    No. It functions via HDMI in, if you're not feeding a signal via the HDMI in then there is nothing to view. I imagine converters for a bunch of tv signal styles are in the works though.

    XO has just HDMI ports on the back. So no way to help students and dorms.
