XBOX ONE - Am getting frequent updates on games - each saying approx 5 GB

Hi All,

I was wondering if anybody else getting same issue as mine.

Whenever I insert game disc (connected to internet) such as RYSE Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5, Kinect Rivals, Zoo Tycoon etc., I get a prompt / message asking to update the game.

To bypass that message and to continue with game, I disconnect from internet but I have a question why does game needs frequent updates that too withing 2-3 days of updating?

Please let me know if this is happening to you as well or its only me. If yes, is there a fix or workaround to get rid of frequent game updates?

ok, take it for example, call of duty = approx 40GB, if that is downloaded 10,000 times that is 400TB approx, and that is just one game, digital distribution can cost as much as a case and booklet (which cost approx 5 pence in bulk each), data distribution
is not cheap and it surely is not free.

 

Happened once with Peggle. Aside from that the other games I frequently rotate playing and are updated rarely.

 

Am I reading this right? It's prompting you to update the game. And instead of downloading and installing the update, you're disconnecting and playing offline. And now you want to know why it keeps telling you to download the update?

 

Yeah, DEEP, are you ever going back and downloading the update? If not, it will ask you to update every time you put the game in. So it's not multiple updates, its the same one.

 

Easier to just have always on option so updates are done when you're not ready to play.

 

The fact it forces you completely offline instead of simply blocking you from multiplayer is ridiculous. Why the hell can't I be in party chat while playing solo? Do you still get booted the whole time the update is downloading like 360 too? It's ***.

 

I have my console set to download in the background. So when I turn my console on I have updates pre-downloaded and queued for when I put that games disk in. The internal 500gb hard drive should be adequate for a while, but you can now attach a external
usb 3.0 terra drive, for like 80-120 bucks. I got a 2 TB usb 3.0 drive on ebay for like 80 dollars. Just set up and let the console install everything it needs to, the 360 would boot you offline if you didn't update also...

 

It's not that simple. The updates on here are over 100x the size of the ones we got slapped with on 360. It's ridiculous, and I shouldn't have to spend an entire day downloading some giant *** patch for a game I'm not actually playing with anyone anyway
just to stay in *** party chat with friends who are doing other things.

 

And that's exactly why you set updates to download automatically so it happens when you're not at your console. Spend an entire day downloading a patch? You're almost doing it as wrong as the OP.

 

and you're working around the problem instead of demanding it be dealt with properly. There's no legitimate reason for updates being the size they are, nor being kicked completely off XBL if you want to play solo without downloading the giant things. You
can't chat or pop achievements offline, neither of which has anything to do with the damn updates being rammed down our throats. They rushed this console out with a sluggish, minimal UI, bet everything on Kinect and TV TV TV, and the fanboys just defend every
possible thing without logic or reason.

 

Hi All,

I updated the game (Forza Motorsport 5), it was approx 5GB and also played it on the same day after updating. Then after 2 days I wanted to play same game (Forza Motorsport 5) that was updated but I got prompt saying "This game or app needs to be updated".

This is occurring for every game and not just FM5

 

@Sword_Style: I have a question.. If a game is updated in background, does that mean you are not getting frequent updates? Nope. You might be getting updates but you never know.

But the point here is my broadband plan is of 8GB per month and single update takes 5GB of data then how will u expect to have frequent updates? this sounds pathetic and ridiculous and I dont know reason why so frequent updates of such bulk size is required.

 

While the OP makes his point poorly (i.e. of course he will keep getting an "update" request until he actually accepts it) he does make a valid point.

ALL games should allow you to choose and carry on playing solo if you do not want the update - I assumed they did, but since I've always updated I don't actually know. (Plus I only play online, hence I have to accept the updates).

Also - the size of the updates is getting to be beyond a joke. Not everyone has unlimited broadband (luckily I do). But there's no easy solution to that problem!!!
