    xbox one adaptive controller

I had a few questions about the adaptive controller: my brother had a stroke about 4 years ago and is still fairly severely affected, he can move his left arm and leg fairly well but not really his right side. He was an avid
xbox player and still buys the games but can't play them. I was looking at getting him the xbox adaptive controller (well i have ordered one) but we are in the UK and most of the accessories are only available in the US. So, I was wondering what exactly are
the range of devices that would work with the adaptive controller? Looking at

    https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/controllers/devices-that-work-with-adaptive-controller

The only two specifically listed are the logitech extreme 3d and the PDP one handed joystick, unfortunately the logitech joystick is right-handed (which is the side my brother can't really move) and the PDP is only available in the US. Would I be able to use
any PC joystick? Also since my brother could only play with one hand would I be able to set it so that the movement of the joystick controls the left stick of the controller and the movement of the thumbstick (that most joysticks have at their top) would control
    the right stick?

    Thanks!

    :)

    Hey David,

First thing that comes to mind would be Using co pilot along side the adaptive controller. Co- pilot allows 2 different controllers to control player one,
And it works perfectly along side the adaptive controller. Aside from that, here are some helpful links to check out if you haven't already :

    Hello Luke,

Thanks for bringing the question to the forums. You could get with Logitech I looked up that joystick it didn't say wether it was either hand, might be able to be used for both. There is a one handed joystick found on

    Xbox Assistive accessories
. That may be of interest for you. There are various other third party websites that offer joysticks and may be able to find one, for example
Logitech website. Did do a search for left handed joystick and that Logitech one did pop up so it may work left handed.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Hi Brad,

thank you very much for the reply, and I'm sorry to keep bothering you I just need to make sure before I order some stuff.

So I should be able to use most joysticks with a USB 2.0 output? Like would the Thrustmaster T.16000M work? Sorry I can't really use the xbox accessories since they're not available in the UK.

I suppose my main question was (other than the compatibility) how programmable would the controls be? Like what was asked in another thread by mark-reynolds titled "Xbox adaptive controller and Logitech Extreme 3d programmability???" (sorry for some reason
I'm having some difficulty posting the link)Would I be able to program it so he could use the hat switch (the little joystick at the top of the joystick) to look around while he uses the joystick to move?

    Thanks again,
    Luke

    Hello Luke,

As long as they are the USB 2.0, they will connect to the adaptive controller. As far as programming them, you would need to get with the manufacturers of the joysticks to make sure. From what I have researched, on the Logitech one It looks like it can be
programmed quite a bit. I have looked over both you posted they both will work. As for the joystick on the Logitech on top it looks like it is programmable with the buttons on the side. As stated I would get with Logitech to make sure.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Hi Luke,

I'd be happy to jump in and provide some input.

Yes, you should be able to use HID devices like joysticks or gamepads that have USB 2.0 outputs, so I believe the joystick you referenced should be compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller.

As far as programmability, you can button map all of the button options found on the Xbox Adaptive controller, but once the joystick is plugged into either the right or left USB port, the buttons default to specific Xbox buttons although I believe you can
customize those as well from the Xbox Accessories app. The hat switch should be able to be integrated as well so that it can be used for camera views for example while the normal thumbstick is used to moved around. The Logitech joystick referred by Microsoft
also has a hat switch so I know it can be used.

There is also a Shift option in the configuration settings that allows you to shift from one controller option to another by the press of a button, so you can move around and look around using the same stick.
