Xbox one - 5.1 via ARC/HDMI?

Is this even possible? I've seen people complaining all over the web, about 6 months worth of threads but no solution, and no indication the issue is being worked on.

My xbone is connected to my TV, then my TV is connected to the 5.1 system via HDMI/ARC. 5.1 works for all other sources, including the xbox 360.

Untill i changed the "tv connection" to HDMi from "auto", i wasn't even able to select 5.1. Now i've done that, i can, but it doesn't work properly; there is no centre channel data. The center channel is playing SOMETHING, but lots of audio is missing from
games.

I even tried using an optical connection straight to the 5.1 box, no audio was transmitted whatever setting was used.

That is a good point. I know that a year or two ago few if any TV's passed 5.1 via ARC. But that may have changed as you say with top range ones.

The DD vs uncompressed will be the critical thing in either case.

I have 5.1 Uncompressed selected on the XBOX One, that causes 2.0 to be passed, if I set it to DTS (the only other option) then I get no sound at all.

My 360 is set at Dolby Digital 5.1

I'll have to try to find out what the W905 is able to pass via ARC, considering it is the top of the line Sony from 2013 I would hope 5.1!

 

Have you gone into the audio settings on the xbox one and set it to output 5.1 via HDMI?

Unless this is set, it will only output stereo sound.

 

Hi, thanks for your response, but as i stated, when set to 5.1, no centre channel data (aka dialogue and such) is transmitted.

 

Bump.. My optical straight into the 5.1 surround system with settings of Bitstream out, and Dolby Digital encoding, which worked prior to April update, what's the go??? I didn't but a 5.1 system not to use it..
