Xbox one 4K up scaling via external Onkyo receiver flickers On live tv

hi, I have an up scaling AV receiver.that turns everything into 2160P for my LG 4K tv.

i found the picture quality is better than hdmi passthru though the amp, meaning it does a better up scaling job than the tv.

When watching live tv via haugpauge tuner, after a while the picture starts shaking and flickers and white clip artifacts appear, even on the dashboard

I only get this issue from xbox one (output via AppleTV, LG bluray etc is fine)

If I set receiver to not upscale to 2160P, the issue goes away (But that defeats the goal of enabling up scaling)

if I unplug tuner the issue seems to go away, so seems to related to live tv.

So what is it with the Xbox video output that messes up the receiver from doing up scaling correctly ?

Note I read a similar issue on an AV firum saying this behavior happens on the new Xbox one S also

So currently, although I love the Xbox tv guide, I am forced to use the tv's own tuner and guide to watch live tv instead of using the Xbox

    :)

Oh and I've tried different HDMI cables. Hooking it directly up to my Onkyo receiver works fine. Setup is STB -> Xbox One -> Onkyo Receiver -> TV

4K Pass through not working with XBox One S

    Hi there

I have an Onkyo TX-NR747, a Sony KD-55XD9305 and an Xbox One S.

When I connect the XBox to the TV directly I get full 4K functionality as well as HDR. However, when I connect the XBox to my TV through the Onkyo it then fails to detect the TV properly and won't play 4K, it does play normal HD though.

As I know the XBox can work on 4K with the TV, what's going wrong when the Onkyo gets in the middle? Is this an XBox issue with the Onkyo or a problem with the Onkyo? Can XBox One S still work through an amp?

Please help as I upgraded by Amp specifically to play my XBox One S.

    Thanks

OK, after some research n the net, it seems I have something to try.

It seems that similar issues have happened to people who have deep color turned on both receiver and input. Seems that only should be enabled in one place.

People have turned of Deep color on the receiver to fix PlayStation issues.

As I have multiple devices, I think I'll instead play will the deep color settings on the Xbox One and report back. ie I'll check the deep color on the Bluray player as well (which has no issue) and try to match that or just turn it off altogether.

Ok, I found lowering deep color setting may have helped a bit, but screen still flashes. Turning of deep Color on Onkyo didn't fix the problem completely.

Passthru on Onkkyo was only solution apart from not using Xbox tuner

Interestingly, if don't use tv tuner, 36 bit color works good on Xbox one (or app video and games only)

I.e. It is only the tv tuner output which craps out (even on main screen with tv minimized.).

Eg if navigate to preferences screen, the errors go away

So think the method of video overlay on Xbox desktop is defective.

So end solution was just to not use the tv tuner on Xbox one.

Dolby Atmos not working Onkyo RZ840

...I have previously had the same xbox working with Dolby Atmos and a different Onkyo receiver a few months ago....
This seems to suggest that the issue is with the RZ840 then, as it worked with a different receiver.

Or did you change something else in your setup along with the other receiver? Did you also change the TV or move up from 1080p to 4K along with the receiver, so Atmos worked in the 1080p environment but not 4K?

Have you tried contacting the Onkyo support as well about that issue?

    4K Display issues

    Hey there!

Have you gone through the steps and suggestions on our
Troubleshoot 4K on Xbox One S support page
? One of the steps mentioned is setting the TV Resolution on your Xbox One S to 1080p, while ensuring the 'Allow 4K' box is checked within 'Advanced TV' settings. The TV resolution setting is specifically for setting
how non 4K content is scaled, and will still allow native 4K content to play at 4K on your display.

If the flicker issues persist with native 4K content after setting your TV resolution setting to 1080p, please post back the brand and model number of your 4K display so we can take a deeper look!
