'Xbox off storage off' when Instant On mode is enabled

I have 'Instant On' mode enabled, but 'Xbox off storage off' is also ticked. Does this mean background updates happen as normal, or should I untick this? Surely to do background updates, storage needs to be on I'd have thought? I've recently
done a factory reset and those are the settings that it came out with so thought I'd leave it, but wanted to make sure anyway.

Question about external hard drive activity with instant on mode

It would most likely if you have instant-on enabled with keep my console/games/apps up to date and when xbox is off turn off my storage unchecked...

Xbox One Console > Settings app > Power & startup > Power mode and startup

Have you enabled the option “When Xbox is off, turning off storage” in Settings > Power Mode & Startup?

That's actually for external storage. So if you're using an external drive for your games, and you want those updated then you'll want to have storage on. If you only have an internal drive, then everything will still update regardless of what is checked.
