Xbox + Oculus = Pointless?

I'm all in on this !I think it will be amazing ..

Gears 4 in VR world ..wow !

Maybe just maybe MS knew what it was doing all along ..I'm sure this was in the works for sometime and i think it will be a big hit.

 

It sounds pessimistic, but I find it really, really hard to care about VR integration. I just... I just
don't care for it.

The closest thing I could equate it to is the Kinect, yeah it's neat in theory, but... I just don't want it to become a thing. It's probably gonna be really cool! For independent developers and some other, more practical uses, it could be a really neat tool.
But with what's happened with Kinect, It's hard for me to get my hopes up when it comes to anything with "motion".

It's hard to call it "hope" anymore. It's more the care I have for it.

Here's hoping, though!

 

I experienced it and can say that I really don't think it's something that will appeal to a mass market...or glasses wearers. Yes it's a cool bit of tech but it's not something the average user would shell out cash for imo.

I feel about the same way with 3D gaming. Cool for a bit but not something I'd spend money on. To each their own though.

 

Call me about VR when they invent the holo-deck.

What is the point of virtual reality if I can't feel the wind through my hair, the rain on my face, the ground beneath my feet.

I can't imagine anything more immersion breaking than being able to view a world but not feel as if I part of it.

This endeavor is a waste of money, I hope that financing this project (Oculus) didn't affect the Xbox One console's hardware.

Just to be clear, this is the scenario that I'm refering to goes something like this...

Xbox One Development Team: Look at this budget, we can use these hardware for the new Xbox console.

Oculus Development Team: I don't think so, this part of the budget belongs to us, sorry.

Xbox One Development Team: Ok, time to switch to plan B. What can we use instead?

Lei xbox isnt paying for this, Facebook owner brought it for $2billion. Microsoft are just a partner so they can use the controller and windows 10 this is why i aint worried because microsoft have hololens and then this

they have prob paid a bit but then again rift have prob also paid to use the xbox pad

 

I think VR will take off. It will be pushed towards gamers at first but it will get to the masses eventually. These headsets are only the beginning.

So far streaming xbox One games through it will not be the VR experience it should be, but it's a small step in the right direction. If they can give you that experience by playing right from your console it would be incredible especially if it gives you
a feeling of being there. It would be cool if they could somehow utilize the Kinect as well since its camera can sense depth. I honestly believe there is so much potential between the OR, ONE and Kinect.

Wouldn't be crazy if the Kinect became a sought after device to make the OR better?

Actually the Kinect has been used successfully in conjunction with OR for a long time by several enthusiasts/developers - one example ;

I've been using the OR for around 18 months, own both generations of developer kit. It certainly has turned me away from traditional gaming. Elite Dangerous is imo the absolute standout showcase and experience as far as gaming goes for this tech, Frontier
Developments have put in an awful lot of support to VR and continue to do so, other simulator games that have support work very well also (driving, flying etc).

However, it is the belief of many that OR is currently being held back from release until their social media software is ready for launch. The whole world of facebook will be change when people can scan in digital avatars of themselves and meet up with friends
in VR. The possibilities are almost limitless wrt social media and VR use outside of gaming.

I hope Valve get the their HTC Vive out by the end of the year, I think it may be the better choice for gaming.

I don't think VR is viable for current generation consoles, not sure how well morpheus works or how it will do, but I think current console hardware is a little lacking for great VR unless there is a real breakthrough in VR rendering.
