Xbox + Oculus = Pointless?

Discus and support Xbox + Oculus = Pointless? in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; That was from the CEO Brendan Iribe. But that may be if you have to buy it all in with a PC to run it. Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by BizarroMantis, Jun 12, 2015.

  2. Just watched the video. I see what they are doing with this. I know that one big draw to this is the "being there" in the game idea. And this did not show that so some will wonder. Sort of like what you say with the in car view. I think that will be
their. What I think they were going for here is showing that this could be a very social device. Not just being in the game but people that are not in close proximity could "play together" in another sense. Could be very useful for virtual board games.
Hanging out with friends that are too far way.

Now, I am not really interested in this type of view but I could see this being just as big (maybe bigger) as a full on "cockpit" type view. Or a fps view in a game such as COD. Just seeing how people like the social features and want more I could see
many really enjoying this view to feel like they are with friends. They still have their own screen but they are in that room, even though virtually, with the other people.

No video can do the technology justice, you have to experience it.

The VR systems open up the field of view so the game surrounds you putting you in the game. If someone wants to watch a video that gives a better idea of the experience then do a YouTube search for gaming being done on triple screens.

I run racing sims on triples and going back to a single screen is like going back to the dark ages. The VR system takes that triple screen experience and expands it basically removing you from the real world.

I can already immerse my self in a game without a VR headset.

In fact having a headset on my head would probably break my immersion.

I agree. But I have come around to the idea that a lot of people would want this. Cost will be prohibitive at first. I could also see it catching on in some more adult rated arenas of entertainment with some at some point. No way they can keep these
things locked down. Again, not something I am interested in but it is easy for me to see how they could use this.

I just could not see myself using this. Maybe AR in some ways, maybe. But I am not big on putting things on my head. Now, holo projections in the room to project a game. Building a room that is totally for that and feeling like I am there in some ways
is a much bigger deal. Long way to go for that though. *Computer submit reply*

I aint holding judgement the way i see it is it is like 3D i go cinema all the time i watch films in 3D and for me it looks no dif to a normal screening. This VR wont cost more then £600 ill give it a try but thats all if i like it then ill get one. I will
happily sit on my sofa and use this for gaming while the Mrs watches tv

This is the oddest thing I have seen and costing just to stream xbox one games in a virtual room

    PC recommended specs for OR

NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater

Intel i5-4590 processor equivalent or greater

    8GB+ RAM

    Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output

    2 USB 3.0 ports

    Windows 7 SP1 or newer

Then the cost of OR itself and then the cost of an xbox one, its most likely dead on arrival for the average consumer on the xbox side of things.

Im sure this will have a decent following on the PC, I in no way shape or form would purchase an xbox one for this.

This is why the videos do this technology a huge injustice.

People seem to be under the impression this is simply streaming the picture from the console to a device on your head....it's not. It opens up the field of view so you feel as if your actually in the environment, the same peripheral vision we have in real
life we have in game....phenomenal experience in games like Battlefield and Skyrim.

That also explains the horsepower requirements because the computer/console needs to render significantly more content.

  10. I find it amazing so many people are passing judgment on something that they have absolutely no experience with.

I don't have to eat a worm sandwich to know I'm not going to like it.

With a price looking like $1500 its doomed from the start, no way is a peripheral going to appeal to a mass market at that kind of price.

That's about 1500 reasons to carry my console to another room to play it if the need arises.

  11. For all we know this cinema mode we are hearing of could just be nothing. I imagine we'll get what we want, if not, sooner than later.

I don't have to eat a worm sandwich to know I'm not going to like it.

That appears to be a common mentality among many people. When I was about 5 I used to think that way (didn't think I'd like eggs) but thankfully at some point I out grew it and decided it was better to experience something before I passed judgment on it.
I've eaten crickets and ants that were actually pretty good....I'd give a worm sandwich a go.

As far as the 1500 hundred dollar price tag......I can buy one today for 350 dollars for the PC so if the One version gets released at 1500 dollars, shame on Microsoft. (still not seeing that price in any article I've read).

It's tech I wouldn't mind playing with for a few hours, but would never even consider a purchase unless it was $50.00. I won't even buy a 3D T.V. because I don't like having to wear the glasses; couldn't even fathom strapping one of those things to my noggin.
    Lol.

And I was about 5 when I realized that along with occasionally taking a chance with something I might like, I can use my common sense, available information and other's experiences with something to decide if I want to dive in
and try something myself. I try to find a logical balance.

If you would like to try a worm sandwich, good. Hope you enjoy it! I have a pretty vivid imagination and I can sufficiently imagine that it would be a disgusting experience. Maybe I'm gifted. *shrug*
