So the 698MB System Update has rolled out 2 days ago. The downloading of the update never goes through 10% for me to this point. It always pops up with an error code, most times it's 0x80070570, some other times it's 0x87DD0003 or 0x80072F8F.

All of which point to an error in trying to connect to the Xbox Live services. The console is an Xbox One X (less than a year old!) and it can't handle a simple 700MB update?!

I tried the usual stuff, connecting with an ethernet cable, connecting it to my mobile phone's hotspot, forced reboots, etc. I've reset my console even - hence the "bricked" part. Now I can't even use my console in offline mode because of the forced update.

I'd like to know if there is a fix, please.

    :)

Xbox update has broken my console...twice!

Hi, when I installed the February system update my Kinect bricked within 12 hours, Xbox support very helpfully sent me a new Kinect and all was sorted. On Saturday I installed the March update and the whole console bricked within 12 hours, completely and
utterly dead! Wondering if anyone else has had issues with the most recent updates?

Thankfully Amazon have sent a new console out immediately and it came today (Sunday)

Are you in the insider program? I assume you must be if you got a 700MB update 2 days ago, in which case, you'll probably be better off posting over at the Xbox Insiders sub-Reddit: -

Please follow these instructions to attempt to reformat your console in a pre-boot state:

    1. First, eject any discs.

    2. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off. Wait 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in.

    3. Press and hold the BIND button (to connect controllers) and the EJECT button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console. Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds. Listen for two “power-up”
tones a couple of seconds apart.

    4. You can release the BIND and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone. The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

    5. To reset your console from the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter, use the D-pad and A button on your controller to select Reset this Xbox.

    6. When prompted, select Keep games and apps.

This option will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps, and it will erase all profiles so make sure you know the log in information for them.

    -----------

If that does not work please see this page for instructions to use a USB drive to help you reformat erasing everything:

  6. Yes, that's the point where I was just now.

Tried using a flash drive but 1 second after the second power-up tone, there is a power-down tone (indicating failure) and the "something went wrong" window pops up. (Didn't even have a chance to remove the flash drive, like the tutorial suggests.) Tried
several times. After this, when I press continue, offline update does not work, error code is E101 00000504 8B050041. Also tried several times.

I'm going to go ahead and remove every game as well with the console resetting as there is little else I can do at this point.

Edit: now it just keeps popping the 0x80072F8F error code up when trying to update.

Could it be that the Xbox Support page did not upload the latest OS yet and I get this latest error because I'm trying to update to the OS I already have?

According to this page with your Error 101, since you can not do the USB update, you will need a repair:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/startup-error-solution

But according to the help page for that error 0x80072F8F, that means that you are having trouble connecting to xbox live to get the update.

    See this page:
    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/errors/error-code-80072f8f

So I would troubleshoot your router/modem by unplugging them for 15 seconds and trying to update again.

And also, I would suggest trying wired if possible, and changing to IPv6 if you can, on your hardware. See here for more on IPv6:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/networking/ipv6-on-xbox-one

  8. Xbox October System Update Bricked my console

As I've said in the original comment, I have already tried wired connection, router reset, mobile hotspot; and I know the issue is that it can't connect to Xbox Live. The point is, nothing was wrong before this update popped up. Meaning even if IPv6 is
disabled, it wasn't an issue. But I will entertain that option just for the sake of it.

Can't send it back for repair as I don't have the box anymore. (Ridiculous to keep a box of that size for a year.)

I'll see what the subreddit has to say, as you've suggested; otherwise I will have to buy another 500€ console because of a 700MB System Update. Ridiculous.

You don't need the original box for repairs. You can send it in any box that is reasonably sized for it.

If you need to set up a warranty repair see here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/devices

The out of warranty repair is around ~$135-150 USD and that's definitely cheaper than a new console.

  10. It is cheaper and it also includes several weeks of waiting time.

Thank you for trying to help.

    Hi there,

Unfortunately this seems to be a situation where you may need to send your XBox in for repair. Youll want to reach out to MS directly to setup a repair ticket.

  13. Xbox October System Update Bricked my console

    Exactly man. Ridiculous that a 500€ console can't handle a 700MB update.

I got an OG Xbox as a replacement while I send it away, a USED ONE and it updated no problem, although it got frozen during the update but after a restart it worked properly. hahahaha

At least I still have warranty on this one.

But if you check, one of them was talking about out of warranty repair ... on a console that came out less than a year ago. hahaha

You mean the last update broke my xbox one ? No warranty on mine, i'll have to pay for a microsoft insane update ??? it's just unbelievable ! Oo

Going to look on playstation 4 next time, so...

  15. My reddit thread actually got downvoted when I posted about this problem ... hahaha

3 different error codes, all pointing toward not being able to connect to xbox live, yet the fault is in the Xbox.
