Xbox Occulus Rift

I was really excited to see microsoft announce that they were going to let you play xbox with the Occulus.... until I looked online and saw that you only get to play it in a virtual theater. A virtual theater is cool, a giant virtual screen, I think I'll
enjoy it.

But, Sony is actually bringing the virtual reality experience to it's console. I'll be happy with Xbox if it does the same, but you guys seem set on this "HoloLense". Microsoft, I'm a life long gamer, I have news for you: This will sell. Yeah, that's right.
HoloLense will sell, there is a type of player that will want it. But it is a product that is going to sell less than that dumb web cam that everyone had to get if they wanted an xbox. Most people do not want to spend a lot of money on looking at virtual toys.
Virtual Reality is where video gaming is going. You're partners with Occulus, why not take full advantage of this? It is looking to me like maybe this will be there for your next console, if you make another. If I were an investor, which I am not, I would
be buying Sony stock right now, and selling yours. When Playstation VR comes out, I'm buying their console and their headset. I'm entering the Matrix. If you guys change your minds, put more focus into VR gaming for the current console, even if it comes out
some time later, then I will stick around. But the current way of gaming is about to be a thing of the past. And HoloLense? I have respect for the engineering of the device & software, but it's going to end up in that pile of bad ideas that should have just
never happened, like the Nintendo Glove.

I am in school for computer science and engineering. When I finish school, I will be happy to work at microsoft and help you guys make a lot more money, but I have a feeling that you guys have too many people that don't understand how most people think. If
that's the case when I have learned everything I need, I have a product idea that will give me enough money for another product line that will crush Xbox and Playstation, and its a better way of doing VR than anyone is even talking about.

Kinect vs. Leap Motion

The company that makes Occulus Rift has a lot of interest in bringing it to next gen consoles as well. I kinda hope this happens.

 

I hope VR takes off but I wouldn't expect much in regards to the One and OR combined to make awesome games. I hope I'm wrong though and they surprise us.

 

No point in backing something which doesn't have the software to go with it, its down to developers IMO not MS.

Will wait and see where it goes, I see racing games support it, but I am not into racing, I can't see FPS's supporting it, and thats where I enjoy gaming.

I also think it will have more commercial applications, a bit like kinect.

Also if you believed in OR, you would back OR not a platform its potentially used on.

 

the hololense wont be out for 5 years. i think if sony is releasing a vr headset for ps4 MS should do the same for the xbox one. i would love to use a vr head set with my xbox one

salut a tous j aimerais s avoir si il y a une date prévue pour occulus rift et si il y a certain jeux valable qui vont sortir car a se que j ai vu sa a par bien terrible et pour payer 600 euro pour des lunettes ou il n y a pas un jeux d attendu bonne chance
et j éspère que l on pourras voir les film avec

I have a Rift and Vive and I have used the Holo and I much prefer the Holo. I think it is where things will go in the long run. The VR is cool and will catch on. But the Holo is just better. I was messing with a demo a friend of mine was doing for it
in there studio and it was just so awesome. The tech has a higher upside in my view.

After reading this comment I think you should look at it this way. MS is a HUGE company that makes many great technology products. If you are that smart and able to do so much better you should easily be able to make something that will "crush Xbox and
PlayStation". I want to wish you good luck as I have heard this many, many times from people I have met and around the internet. And it would seem by now those people should have had something as for some it has been a decade. Not saying you will not do
it or cannot do it and I hope you succeed.

Here is the main issue with a lot of this stuff. It seems when I read or hear this stuff you can almost always see a persons person likes and biases come into play. Just remember, it may seem like a great idea and you might think that many want it. But
that is rarely the case and a lot of research has to go into it.

Anyway, with VR I think the biggest hurdle will be the headsets. I have let a lot of people try mine and most were not fans. The biggest thing was strapping on that headset. A few had some other issues. I think VR will catch on with a certain subset
of gamers and that will be it.

Holo is just the beginning of this. We will see much more developments in this area over time. And the applications will be real world as well. It has a lot of applications outside of gaming. But gaming can definitely benefit from it. I am looking forward
to getting mine and working on some gaming applications. The only thing I see with Holo is the size. The units will eventually come down to something almost "invisible" to the user at some point. And that is the point in which it will become mainstream.
I see VR retaining a larger more enclosed headset for its life and that will turn a lot of people off.

 

Why must people resurrect threads from 9 months ago?

Since the OP, Microsoft has announced Scorpio at E3 2016 which will be more than capable when it comes to handling VR/Occulus.

 

Yeah, I'm totally getting the Scorpio.
