Xbox not picking up my seagate external hard drive anymore after new updated

While the troubleshooting steps were not disclosed in your post, have you at least tried a power cycle? (see here)

Before the power cycle, completely unplug your external HDD. Do the power cycle as normal. When the console is fully booted up and you're in the main menu, connect the HDD. Anything happen now?

If nothing happens on the Xbox, it's probably best to reformat the drive on a Windows computer (ensure it is NTFS-formatted), then connect and reformat on the Xbox One. You will lose all data on the drive, so keep this in mind.

If it's not detected on either the computer or Xbox, then there may ultimately be a problem with your external hard drive.

as per the other comments about the use of the external hard drive for the 360 I am in the update preview program which allows additional External hard drives to be used.I purchased the same Seagate 2tb external hard drive as per my xboxone but when I apply
the format on the xbox360 as per the instructions it replies with unable to format. Would like to know what external hard drives are compatible? I no the hard drive works as tried it on the xboxone after it would not format for the 360

yeah a controller is working for my xbox one but my external hard drive which is a 3tb seagate is not working so my usb ports work fine its just for some reason the external hard drive isn't so any other suggestions or should i just get a new hard drive

I have this same problem but with an xbox one. Right after the update the external hard drive wasn't being detected. Tried with a brand new drive with the same result.

Same here, a recent xbox os update broke compatibility with some external hard drives.

My seagate 5tb media drive stopped being detected by my xbox one s.

Drive checks out fine on a pc with no issues, however, xbox cannot detect the same drive.

I purchased a new 5tb WD external drive and after formatting on a pc it was not detected by xbox os also.

After 2 months of research I eventually fixed the extetnal drive not detected problem.

I used the Western Digital quick format tool to format the external drive and it finally solved the problem.

My 5tb media drive is now detected every time and the initial problem seems to be due to an xbox os update and certain partition types on extetnal hard drives.
