Xbox not installing/updating games overnight

Small question, but is causing a big inconvenience. My Xbox One used to just install games I want it to install/update them overnight when I had it set to instant on. I could then powerdown the console, and just let it work overnight. Now it doesn't do that
anymore. It's really annoying, why is it acting like this? It installs/updates for a bit, and then promptly gives up partway through. Since game publishers don't let developers ship completed games, anymore, it's really annoying to turn the game on, and find
an ungodly massive patch failed to fully download/install even though the xbox was set to instant on (which supposedly let's the console work autonomously, and it would power down only after it's done).

The only thing that seems to work is I leave the xbox on all night. This is a waste of energy. Anyone know what is going on? Anyone else encountering this ever present and really annoying glitch? Full disclosure, my particular Xbox One was never a good quality
console, I think I grabbed the defective one in the store way back, it has always had a history of crashes/hangs...but recently it has been getting better. This issue, however, has popped up and won't go away. It is not a constant problem...it used to be far
more prevalent, but it's frequency has admittedly decreased in recent times.

So my xbox used to download while in a rest mode as well. Now i too have to leave it on 24\7 . As far as i know its non existent downloading on instant on now , all my friends say they now leave it on 24\7 too. Id like help as well .

Based on darkist...I don't think that was their intent...I've got a game in there right now downloading and it finished...which surprised me because the size was massive, it usually utterly fails when it's a download anything larger than 20 gbs at once.
I'll try it tomorrow and post on here what my results are in terms of if that box was checked or not in the first place.

Welcome to the forums, sorry for the inconvenience you're experiencing.

You may need to check your automatic update settings on your console. Here's a small guide on how to do that Automatic updating

Hopefully that will help you out a bit.

I know what you mean but the update got installed overnight. Turned my xbox on later that day and suddenly its installing destiny 2 with “transferring game content”. The game was installed fine before the update so there wasnt a need for it to reinstall.

Finally got it -- there was a Microsoft update installed on my PC overnight -- when I uninstalled it, the games worked again; no freezing on the ads.
