Xbox not connecting to WiFi may be due to magnetic interference

If your Xbox One does not connect to any wireless network, but they still show up as selectable options, it may be due to magnetic interference.

For months I could only connect to the internet through wired, and not wirelessly. After entering the password when selecting a network it would not connect. I tried every troubleshooting method which did not help.

I recently discovered what was stopping me from connecting to the internet. I had a external hard drive placed on the top left hand corner which would not let me connect to the WiFi. When I moved it, the network would resume as normal. Magnetic interference,
is what I think was the problem.

So if you're having difficulty connecting to the internet, make sure you don't have a hard drive or anything magnetic placed near or on the top left hand corner of your Xbox One.

Wi-Fi Interruptions can be caused by a number of factors. Magnetic interference such as microwaves, speakers and anything else that uses magnets or has them can cause issues with the connection. Other WI-fi signals can also interrupt them too.

It can depend on many causes. How far is the Xbox from the WiFi router? How many connected devices are close? It may be a signal noise due to some nearby device. You can try to change the WiFi channel from the router to avoid interference.

Don't enclose it too much, or you will overheat your equipment & can also cause electro-magnetic interference, with Console, WiFi or Bluetooth etc..

It is always difficult to diagnose issues with wireless connection in general due to factors that may be out of your control like interference from another source.

Have you tired changing wifi channels, resetting your router or a wired connection to see if this resolves the issue?

Personally I use a wired connection for gaming. True wireless is nice, but in some areas it is prone to radio interference. Any type of electro-magnetic interfence can mess with electrical equpment even though most of them are shielded. Wireless is more
prone due to the fact it uses radio frequency to establish connection.
