Xbox not accepting microsoft password, even when it's correct

Changed my password for my microsoft account a few days ago. I use this account to login to my Xbox.

Turned my xbox on today for the first time since the password change. Prompted me for my password which I expected considering I changed it recently. The xbox won't accept the new password saying to use your Microsoft account password every time.

Have tried:

- Restarting

- Deleting account and adding account

- Deleting account, restarting then adding account

- Shutting down, unplugging then adding account

- Changing password, then adding account with the new password (plus above steps)

- Swearing at it

- Threatening to replace it with a PS4

All of these have failed. I'm not inclined to do a factory reset since I can't find any information that this would work anyway. I can login to my account just fine on a PC using the same password.

Xbox/Microsoft got any answers for me? Fellow gamers - any ideas? Fairly fed up now to be honest.

@XBF Amber M Not a problem, I own a Xbox One

@NinjaLunchBox79 Exactly what I did, there wasn't much else for me to do. I only did the one factory reset in the end, not worth doing
it again.

Support and I finally managed to sort it out but we don't have a definite explanation.

After trying a multitude of options strangely changing my password via https://account.microsoft.com/ then logging in on the xbox worked. We were slightly confused because we tried
this previously during troubleshooting and it didn't work. And yes I am 100% certain I typed the password in correctly each time I tried.

Support still think my gamertag/profile may be corrupted but for the meantime I seem to have access to my profile again. If things go south i'll be sure to place an update here.

@Buachaill Dona I've tried that and it seems to accept it, but then I lose access to my microsoft/email account, even though i'm using the
exact same password... I had to create another new password just to get access to my account again.

@LunaLight7 Bit the bullet and tried that too - but I got the same error and now I can't access my xbox at all, it's stuck on that screen because
it won't let me login.

Sorry about that, if you had done everything, the only thing to do now its to call an agent from the Xbox live helpdesk > https://support.xbox.com/contact-us

Try performing a Soft console Factory reset on your console by doing the following:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Settings.
Select All Settings.
Select System.
Select Console info & updates.
Select Reset console. [KEEP MY GAMES AND APPS]

Make sure you have both your email and password on hand as you will be asked to sign back in. There is an option to delete everything and to save your games and apps; choose the latter.

Hi there,

Your best bet is just to reset your password to the one you are trying to login with. Through your console password reset, sounds odd but that's what I do, even when I know I'm using the right one. I believe Xbox signin can be changed from account login.
Saves you chasing your tail any longer with the issue.
