Xbox name changed

I logged on today to find my xbox live gamertag was changed to a seemingly random name. I'm assuming my name was reported since it was
[Mod Removed]. Is there a way I can appeal this? I had my gamertag since 2008 or 2009, and it wasn't offensive then (no one knew about Ebola until this year). If anything if I am forced to change my name I shouldn't have to pay 10 dollars since I couldn't
anticipate it being offensive years down the road.

Based on what your GT was I wouldn't expect them to change their standing on this.

They didn't charge you for the forced GT change. If you want something different then you'll have to pay. Just don't choose something that violates the info below.

Forced Gamertag Changes
When a forced Gamertag change is imposed, the system automatically assigns a new Gamertag to the affected account, much in the same way a system-generated Gamertag is provided when you first sign up for Xbox Live.

If a player is unhappy with the assigned Gamertag and wishes to change it, he or she may purchase a new Gamertag through the standard Gamertag change process. However, the Gamertag that received the forced change will remain unobtainable.

A forced Gamertag change may be issued if a Gamertag visually resembles, sound likes, represents, hints at, abbreviates, or otherwise insinuates any of the following:

• Profane words or phrases
• Topics or content of a sexual nature
• Hate speech
• Controversial religious topics
• Notorious people or organizations

I am surprised that you do not think the name "Ebola" is not offensive. There is no appeal that you make. Once changed it is final. There are no more Forced free name changes as people would just keep making bad names. No matter when you created the name
- Ebola is always a horrible world tragedy and very sensitive to people who have been affected by it. You should learn by your mistake and create a name that is E for everyone and within the guidelines.

You will need to pay the 10 dollars just like the rest of us.

 

Are you kidding me? And axes aren't offensive, even though they are used to kill people? What about any name with the name gun, since guns killed millions of people since being invented, that isn't a world tragedy? It is funny you're telling me to pick an
E for everyone name when your last two games played are Mature rated games. War affects millions and are always tragedies, you know. Get off your high horse and speak to me as an adult and don't tell me "I should learn by your mistake". Fine, it's offensive,
but maybe Microsoft shouldn't have let a 15 year old pic the name in the first place. As far as I'm concerned it was within the guidelines, and if the guidelines changed they shouldn't force me to pay money to change it.

I'm not not upset at having my name changed, nor am I trying to offend anyone. I just don't believe anyone should have to be forced to give microsoft money for a name they approved.

 

I was not in anyway trying to be down looking. If you go through these forums you will see the same post over and over. My last 2 games are not enforced by Microsoft as the game manufacturer enforces there own games. If parents are letting their wee ones
play an adult game then it cannot be helped. The only thing Microsoft enforces is when people use the voice communication & messaging systems since they are owned by Microsoft.

Again - they used to perform a forced name change when one was reported. However the same people yet created improper names over and over and that ties up Enforcement big time. So they changed it. Learn from your mistakes is exactly what I tell my own
kids. They make a mistake they have to suffer the consequences. At least Microsoft allows you to change the gamertag. PS closes the account and does not have any option for changing it.

Apologies - did not mean to come across as looking down on you. No intention. Ebola has been known for a long time. As for not being allowed? People are very clever - they string words together or symbols to defeat the filters that are in place.
