Xbox Mute icon / Mic not working

I purchased and Xbox One s , & extra Controller just over a month ago. In the corner of the screen by the battery Icon the headset/Mic symbol has a line through it to suggest it is muted. I have been through every setting possible and tried everyones suggestions
from the forum sites , and yet the icon is still there and my Headset & Mic are not working.... How do i resolve this ??

The headset & mic work perfectly fine on another device and on an Iphone , so they are not at fault, so why when plugging them in the 3.5 jack port , they are not being picked up ?

At some stage the headset and mic were working fine on both controllers, but now they are not working on either controller ??

Please can someone help solve the issue ?

Thanks for reaching out to us today. I'd be happy to help.

Do your headsets plug into the 3.5 mm headphone jack in the controller? Have you by any chance tried plugging in other types of headphones, like earbuds that have a mic for example?

Also, I suggest testing the headsets on a device like a mobile phone and then make a call to see if you can hear and also others can hear you.

Also when the headsets are plugged in can you hear the game audio of the game you are playing or is it just related to chatting with others in the party chats?

Do you by any chance have other controllers to test the headset out on?

When you said you tried a complete console reset, are you referring to a
Soft Factory Reset?

Mic mute icon on xbox

We purchased the xbox in June, had a headset which worked but then stopped. Bought a new headset which we couldnt get to work at all so returned and bought a different make. At this point we realised there is a mic icon beside battery icon that has a strike
through as though muted but have tried everything to unmute (including complete console reset) with no success.

We can hear audio through tv and other people chatting but cant get any headset to work at all.

Please help!

Hello Griffin,

There are a lot of different variables when there are issues with headsets. The main reason/cause for headset is if its a first party or third party headset. When Microsoft issues updates they cover first party headsets but can cause issues with third party
being software is from different developer. The other issue is the 3.5 mm jack gets worn out has been an issue ever since jack was made. Example walkman cd players with the jack etc. There is limited troubleshooting when it comes to headsets due to this. Is
the headset you are using a first or third party?

First party--created by Microsoft
Third party--- Developed by someone other than Microsoft examples turtle beach, astro, etc

Hi, have you plugged the controler into the console and checked for update in settings>kinect and devices>devices and accessories and click on the three dots to see if the firmware needs an update.

This is a new unit,and controller', it worked fine for 3 weeks, using "Afterglow LVL3" wired headset, and the unit has now gone to muted mic icon showing, Would like to try a controller reset, if there's a way,

Hey Griffin thanks for keeping in touch!

We suggest (if it hasn't already been done) a reset of the console since
the problem might be on the actual OS of the console so we would suggest a
Soft Factory Reset (while keeping games and apps with the controller and headset plugged in) IF AND ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IS MET:

There is a stable network connection.
The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)

We recommend this since it would push the updates (drivers) through to the controller and headset,

Once the setup is complete it will ask if we want to keep settings or manual setup lets do manual setup. Give it a shot and let us know of any changes!
