XBOX music gamertag change.

I went to xbox.xom to buy some music and when I used my email to log on it came up with as the login person, so I clicked on it and it says it is my gamer ID. Ok, so must have been one of my kids that set it up or from long ago....but I will
just change it. I click on change ID and in true Microsoft fashion, the change ID page does what? nothing, it just gives you a link to info on how to change the ID in xbox 360...ok great, well except for one small issue, I don't have an xbox, I listen to music
on a computer.

So now what?

On Google you click change account name and it comes up with a box that you input a new name and submit and it changes it....does Microsoft have anything like this?

If your gamertag was created for you during Xbox Live sign-up, you can change the gamertag once for free. Additional Xbox Live gamertag changes cost 800 Microsoft Points. For steps and details, see Change

Since you chose your gamertag, you would have to pay to change your tag. Changing your gamertag should not affect anything else on your account.

So is this not your LIVE account, the Xaveus account?. Do you have one with another name?.

You can not make 2 LIVE accounts with the same E mail address, so if you are trying to access the forums using a different account are you positive it is the correct log in info?.

 

I only have one account, the one I log into my computer with and it is the only email address I have...I log in and when I go yo xbox music the name comes up with an avatar...all I want is to change the name.

Yes, that is the page that just has a link to instructions on how to change your gamerid in xbox 360....which I do not have.

I don't think it can be done....I have been searching all day and have found over 700 posts so far on it, with people having the same issue...and no one had a solution except for just cancel and go with google or Itunes for music.

Really wanted to stay with Microsoft, but if they cannot even get simple database programming right I wonder if the service is any good.

Have you EVER in your life heard of not being able to simply change a username....lol

Personally I think it is because Microsoft just wants to shuck the xbox and could care less about customer service

I've heard of many services not allowing a person to change their user name, Sony's PlayStation Network is one clear example. iTunes has no "username" to speak of either, their accounts are simply an e-mail address.

Gamertags are just what they seem to be a "tag" used by gamers to differentiate themselves from one another. Clearly someone who had access to your account has access to an Xbox to set up the customized avatar and gamertag. If the tag wasn't changed it'd
be something along the lines of "UnrelentingCuddle291253" or "OverbearingKitten460234" and not "Xaveus Young" which coincidentally is the exact username of someone who actively plays EVE Online and has been a member of that game for approximately two years.
The EVE Online avatar also matches your Xbox LIVE avatar quite well.

Furthermore, if you did get access to a gaming console to change your gamertag then you'd also have to pay $9.99 plus applicable taxes.

 

I expect it's more because the gamertag doesn't really matter unless you're on the console. It's starting to matter a LITTLE more now with Windows 8, but if all you do is listen to music then it's really not important. That being said I will agree that
if they are moving forward with integration of their services then they should have an option on the website or computer to change the gamertag.

Visage is correct through, if you want a different ID on PSN you need to make a new account.

 

To make a new account, then I need to tie it to a different email....this email is used to log on to all of my devices, so now I have to change all those devices.

Yes my kid created the name, on a computer not an xbox by the way. But not sure what that has to do with the question of how to change it.

But in true Microsoft fashion there seems to be no answer. I also just found out that in order to use the xbox music app on android I have to pay 9.99 a month...lol...just to play the music I already bought!

Bought some music on Google Play and guess what it did...downloaded what is called an mp3 to my devices all at once.

Also they have an automated system, what that does is when you change your username or ANY account info, the server automatically goes into the database and changes what is called the table reference....so that way no human has to be instructed to do it,
whereby incurring no cost. Microsoft should look into that, you do however need a developer that has a high enough skill level or you could just farm it out to a company that does. Just a thought.

If you buy mp3s from Xbox Music then you can transfer them to the phone without trouble. Downloading purchases may be added to the app on Android at some point, but it's a new app so the functionality isn't all there yet.

Back in the day gamertags that were used were permanently consumed, that is likely the reason why it costs money, to prevent people from simply burning through every decent gamertag in short order. They are recycled now, eventually, but there's little motivation
to remove the price.
