Xbox Music App won't add all my music

I'm using the Xbox music app for Windows 8 and I want be able to listen to my music without using itunes, but I've noticed that on my computer the Xbox music app doesn't recognize some of the music files that I have (entire albums worth of songs). I've tried
to add those files specifically (settings, preferences, choose where we look for music on this PC), but that didn't seem to help. I go to the file location and try to specifically open it with Xbox music, but it isn't even offered as an option. How can I get
Xbox music to play these files?

    :)

Windows 8 Xbox Music app won't recognize library-mounted music on an external device.

Same issue. I was hoping today's music app update would solve it, but it hasn't helped.

I have music on an SD card; I added to my music library in explorer and most albums show up in the Music app, but not all. I can navigate to them and play them using "Open File" from within the app, but even after playing they still won't show up in "my
    music" in the app.

Why is the Xbox Music app re-downloading all my music?

Hey all, I think I've come across a solution - please take a look and see if this works for you too. Short answer - I think you need to wait until Xbox music has fully indexed all existing files on your hard drive before you allow it to start downloading
items from your music. So don't check it until the app has had a lot of time to process your local music.

    Details below.

I've already experienced this problem, so I had an 'Xbox Music' folder full of duplicates. Here's what I did:

    1. Turned off 'Music Pass downloads' and 'When I add songs to my music on other devices, add them here too'. This stopped the rampant download queue.
    2. Uninstalled the Xbox Music app
    3. Deleted the Xbox Music Folder
    4. Re-installed the Xbox Music app
    5. IMMEDIATELY turned off 'Music Pass Downloads' and 'When I add songs to my music on other devices, add them here too'. Nothing started downloading.

Xbox Music first grabbed all the music metadata, listing all my songs and putting the satellite icon beside them (streaming only). Now, it's gradually finding the actual physical files, and I'm gradually getting cloud icons beside each song (meaning Matched
    - available in the cloud and for streaming to other devices). No downloads are happening.

Sidenote - on my new Lumia phone, when I check Xbox music, I find all songs from my PC, available for streaming. This makes me think that Xbox Music is indeed finding all my song data.

I will try turning on the 'Download' features after all my music has those cloud icons. Hopefully it will work as intended and will not download duplicates.

Let me know if anyone else tries this, and what happens. Thanks!

  4. Xbox Music App won't add all my music

    Hey there

    Welcome to the forums

    .

You will need to make sure you convert the files to MP4 Player format as that is the format the Xbox Music and Windows 8 uses for its music format.

    .

    I hope this helps

    Regards,

  5. The files can also be mp3 as well. Works fine on mine. Apple's aac files will not work though so you will have to convert those!

Xbox One Download History (re-download DLC)

I am having this problem with music videos in XBox Music. All my previously purchased music videos show on one playlist but none of them can be played (play button disabled). There were no add-ons installed for "my games and apps" > "Xbox Music". I cannot
find any way to re-download this content.

Same issue here on a Surface Pro. I have all my music on an SD card and have added it to the Music Library, but the Xbox Music App is not showing these songs in "my music".
