XBOX Music app plays ads when listening to locally stored Music on either Windows 8.1 or ...

Hey Oscar, this would be great if it worked, but for me it does not. I have similar music library situation I was able to listen to fine with old Windows XP PC on the xbox system music player. Now with Windows 8, I cannot stream any music onto my xbox through
the system music player or xbox music app. The PC is found as a source but but everything comes up as blank or missing from the xbox. I tried xbox music and it will not see my files on Windows 8 either. I have placed all files saved on local PC's hard drive
into the Windows 8 MyMusic library and all the files play fine in Windows 8's music player, just not the xbox streaming.

Does anyone know how or if you are able to play your existing music files saved on your Windows 8 computer on your xbox?? will Microsoft give an answer or solution date with future updates?

An update to this post. I've since figured out that Media Player is intended for adding local music (with out any digital rights attachted), or music that has been purchased outright from the store. Music that is being accessed exclusively through the
Xbox Music pass can be downloaded to the phone by tap-holding the song then choosing "download". I don't recommend using the Windows 8 Phone App to add cloud-sync'ed items to the phone, because this creates two instances of the item, a local copy (added by
the app) and the original streaming link, creating an apparent duplicate. Both instances of the song will play in a play list if connected to wi-fi or a data connection; only the phone's local copy will play if offline. Also, DRM is permanently attached
to Music Pass items, even if they are downloaded. If the music pass expires, they will no longer be playable. I'll remove the items referenced in the links above, and mark this as answered.

Thanks for coming to the forums with your questions. Have you checked Spotify to see if your music is there also? When all this occurred some music was moved to spotify. You can view the entire guide here for

All the music that had a match in Spotify’s catalog now appears in your Spotify library and playlists. All your purchased or uploaded non-Groove Music Pass music will remain untouched in the Windows 10 and Xbox Groove Music apps. Music you own and
that is stored locally on your hard drive or on OneDrive is untouched and will continue to be playable from your local hard drive through the Windows 10 and Xbox Groove Music apps.

Try the Spotify app and let us know.

I have the same problem as the above posted and the solution did not work for me. I already added this directory to the Music Library and the Windows 8 Music app does not detect any music (I'm on a Surface Pro, but we're both running W8).

When I browse to the Music library in Windows Explorer, the albums and directories all appear in the library normally. It seems the Music app is the only thing that CAN'T see these directories. Is there a way to force a detection? Restarting the app doesn't
do anything either.

Thank you for your reply. I have tried the phone both on my home network and my carriers with no difference. I created a playlist on my phone and it synced straight away to my cloud collection on the web. The playlists and music in the web is a mix of matched
music and Xbox Music but neither are showing on the phone. I have not encountered the same problem with the music app on my PC (Windows 8.1) it is seeing my local music but nothing from the cloud. The only things that seem to be working are the web player
and the app on my iPad, even my Xbox One has stopped updating my collection.
