    XBox mic icon muted permanently


    Following a recent update my headset has stopped working, both in terms of the microphone and the earphones.

    It's not the headset, and controllers both work otherwise.

    In the top right hand corner of the screen there is a microphone icon, which is showing as muted. I cannot find anywhere you enable this.

    The controllers are both updated, and both of them are showing the volume button in the controller setup menu as not choosable.

    I see that this has been a common problem, and I have spent about two hours trying to fix it according to feedback, to no avail. Any new ideas?

    Hello

    Finally i did the soft reset .. and still have the issue XBox mic icon muted permanently :(

    The xbox reboot showed the welcome display ... and the mic muted icon still was there ... not sure what other action i can do ..

    (the muted mic icon is on , even without a controller still connect to the xbox)

    this is like triying to kill deadpool ... cant see any solution for this .. and we cant play any multiplayer game with mic ..

    Can't unmute anyone

    My mic icon flickers when I'm in party chat, but as soon as i invite or join , my mic is muted. Nor can i hear anyone. When i click on peoples name, it says they are muted but im unable to unmute. Please help

    Hey ProFefe! Those links our Ambassador suggested are great to look at, but I would also recommend contacting
    Xbox Support because they're great at finding the root cause of the issue! Anything plugged into the controllers using the 3.5 mm headphone jack will show an additional "Audio"
    setting that will be located below the normal Settings under the System tab of your Xbox Guide. If you don't see that, it's likely the port in the controllers are not able to read the headphone jacks.

    Let us know if you think it may be the 3.5mm headphone ports on your controllers.

    You can't with the Stereo Headset Adapter since the chat settings are on the adapter instead of the Xbox. Is the mute icon permanently lit up or are you seeing a mute icon on the Xbox?

    Another method is using an adaptor for the headphones instead of the 3.5mm headphone jack.
