  1. Xbox Local Streaming (Companion App) - Bandwidth issue with Bootcamp

    Hi,

I am trying to stream from my Xbox One to one of my laptops through my 5GHz Wifi, and am facing a weird issue: it works fine on my Acer Swift 7, but is very bad on my Macbook Pro 2017 running Windows 10 on Bootcamp.

On the Macbook, I get average bitrate (seen through Xbox Companion App metrics) of 2-3 Mbps, while a speedtest on the internet gives me symetrical 200 Mbps (I have a fiber optics connection). This old issue from 2015 seems very similar, but found no answer
    : https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/xbox-one-streaming-to-windows-10-lag/07a0df5a-52b7-4c9b-9b6e-40c291c2b179

Both computers are running with the latest updates from Windows Update, and as far as I can tell, the same network configuration (which : do not touch anything). Given the fact that my speedtest is giving very good results, I am still suspecting something
to do with how my router or the Macbook network is handling its link to the Xbox, but I don't really know where to look...

    Thanks for your help!

(Just in case: the Swift 7 is my wife's computer, and the whole point of this setup is to be out of her hair while playing, so using her laptop kinda defeats the purpose)

    :)

Sorry to hear it. More than likely your seeing a connection with less bandwidth because you're using Bootcamp which is an emulator to allow Windows 10. As the Mac is working to keep Bootcamp running properly as well as streaming your console you will experience
    a less stable connection.

Bootcamp is more of a boot manager, since a Mac has been a PC you pay extea for for about a decade.

i suspect somw kind if driver issue

    Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I'm afraid this is not the case, though. The computer is barely using any resources, and the network is capable of passing through way higher amounts of data, as proven by my speedtest of 200 Mbps.

Moreover, bootcamp isn't really an emulation, and runs on the actual hardware of the machine. I can even run games without major issue (and play online), which would be way more resource-intensive.

This is the reason why I am more inclined to look for an explanation around network management and configuration, than something related to the actual performance of the computer.

anyway i dont have problem with the app(store or xboxapp) the problem is the quality of the local streaming

the local streaming using xboxapp + xbox series x is poor, both in cable(gigabit cable, router gigabit too)

when i do local streaming using xbox companion + xbox one x the quality is way better, plus the xbox companion app have option to show network stats(bandwidth, etc.) and theres an option for quality too ( low, medium, high and very high)

my post is to know why xboxapp doesnt work as xbox companion app, and why u guys didnt let xbox companion connect to xbox series consoles

the xbox companion works way better for local streaming, so my point is, make xbox companion be able to connect xbox series consoles, or make xboxapp local streaming have the option to change quality like companion ( low, medium, high and very high) and make it show network stats detailed like companion, it seems xboxapp keep changing quality to make it more responsive, but we r in local streaming, theres no point in auto quality, let me pick which quality i want to use, even if it consumes alot of bandwidth, its okay cuz its local network

i just tested it right now in xbox companion + xbox one x the bandwidth used is stable around 14Mbps, when using xboxapp + xbox series x the bandwidth reach the same 14mbps but its not stable, it descrease to like 2mbps (when quality get low) then increase again, over and over, so im pretty sure xboxapp has the quality set to auto, thats why the bandwidth isnt stable, thats why i asked for an option for local streaming where we can pick the quality like companion does

Why won't Cloud gaming let me stream even though everything is updated?

What you are attempting and what you can do are two completely different things

Companion app is for remote play

    .not for xckoud

You can only use xbox app or the website.

The error you are getting is because you aren't trying to access a local console

You are trying to do it via the web which already comes with latency issues

Because you are trying to stream it not once but twice

You.can only do what you attempt to do by using a locally installed game or an external program for screen recording

    https://support.xbox.com/en-CA/help...-game-streaming-in-xbox-console-companion-app

What is going to happen is you are going to lose akot of frames as video capture is going to take a lot of proccessing power away frothe streaming the game from the xcloud

Game.streaming companion app is meant for being a external display for remote display for your local xbox not a cloud service
