Xbox live won’t connect when I plug a Ethernet cable in

Sometimes when you connect wired right after being wireless you need to unplug it and disconnect the wireless internet

Either the port is bad on your xbox, the cable is bad, or the wall port/device port you are plugging it into is bad

Try the ethernet cable on a different device, such as a laptop, and see if the internet connects through that. Thats just to test the cable itself.

If that does connect, check the length of your connection. You shouldn't be running ethernet more than 20 ft and expecting a stable connection unless you are using CAT6 cable.

The final option is contacting Microsoft support over a malfunctioning port. You would need to send the Xbox in for repairs at that point.

My xbox said it could not connect to xbox live last night and then this morning, I took the ethernet cable and plugged it into another port on the router and it connected immediately

Got WiFi to work.

Really weird. Have to not have an ethernet cable plugged in before you turn it on. Connects to wiFi in my room. But check this video I made when I plug an ethernet cable in:
