xbox live with two users using xbox one and 360

I have looked for an answer to this question and just can't find it. We have a 360 and an xbox one. We have paid for a two year xbox live membership for my son. Mine is about to expire. Do i have to buy another membership for myself to get on xbox live?
or since my son in my house has one, does that cover both of us?

People that don't have xbox live.

According to statistics 27 million xbox 360 users don't have xbox live a little under 50 % of xbox 360 owners. This could mean that half of the xbox one owners would not have live and after one day of using it it would stop working and they would not know
why.

Xbox One Live accounts need to be connected to Xbox 360 user accounts

An Xbox Live account is a gamer profile, associated with a unique Microsoft account (Outlook/Hotmail). Each Xbox Live profile are made transparent between Xbox 360 and Xbox One. You can simply download your profile from Live, regardless which of those two platforms
you are using.

i would like to know this too, as i have also just renewed mine.. and now my sons original account is about to expire....same question, opposite way round... anyone assist ?

The gold can be shared on the One, but in order to have gold on the 360 you would need your own subscription.

Yes it is possible. What you can't do here is use the Xbox Live Profile to two Xbox One consoles or two Xbox 360s.

I'm afraid that it sounds like you currently have two accounts, one offline on the xbox 360 and one Xbox Live account on the Xbox One.

There is an option to promote your offline xbox 360 account to an Xbox Live Account, but this will require a new Microsoft Account (email address), but the next issue would be that it is Not possible to merge multiple accounts into one Xbox Live Account.

So basically there are two options, continue with the current Xbox Live Account that you have on the Xbox One, or to promote the 360 account to an Xbox Live Account and download that to the Xbox One and continue with that one.
