Xbox Live Upload Speed Very Slow

Hi,

Since one week ago I am experiencing a very slow upload speed for Xbox Live service.

I have 250Mb Fiber connection, and using all other services besides Xbox Live, I can get a constant download and upload speed which are very similar. Very constant and very similar, always.

Same values I constantly get using Speedtest, either using a device connected via Ethernet cable, or connected using Wireless.

It was the same for Xbox Live until one week ago.

I kept running the detailed network statistics once every week and always getting the same values for download and upload, for almost one year.

Last week, when I did the test I got a very low upload speed of 5 / 6 Mbps, while normally I get 150 / 160 Mbps (same as the download speed).

Indeed, since last week the multiplayer experience has gotten much worst, with more difficulty to find good games in the FPS I normally play, and occasional spikes in the multiplayer experience (the scene ''freezes'' for one/two seconds and then restart).

This never happened before in one year of multiplayer.

Please note all other services I normally use do not show this degradation in the service.

Few notes for your attention before the usual questions are asked (instead of giving a solution):

- The Xbox is connected via Ethernet cable to the router.

- The router does not have any firewall active, or any other VPN active.

- I have opened up all necessary ports in the Port Forwarding for Xbox.

- When I play with Xbox Live, I disconnect all other services from the router to get the connection as best as possible.

- Most importantly, until one week ago Xbox Live was not showing this problem, and I did not change anything in my settings.

- I already went to my ISP and asked them to run a test on my line (twice), and they confirm everything is fine as usual.

It looks like to me that you have changed some settings on your side. Can you please restore back to previous settings, or provide a truly working solution?

You might also check for a firmware update for your router. Xbox tends to update their ports early. Normally I get a firmware update about the time mine does similar things.

That is very odd, What type of ethernet cable are you using are sure it's not an outdated cat 4 cable?. Could you try getting a cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable to double check also length of the ethernet can cause problems but that only under extreme lengths
and such.

Cat. 6 cable, 1mt long, and replaced over the weekend with a new one because I had the same thought (but of course no improvements).

Router is updated with latest firmware.

But again, please consider that until one week ago everything was working just perfectly, and from my side I did not introduced any change (neither my ISP, as per what they told me, infact all other services are running smoothly as before).

Hi,

It may seem obvious but have you tried to do a full power cycle of your Xbox and router. Sometimes signals get mixed up and you may encounter slow speeds. Usually the problem lies in the internet service however, there are times the system just messes up
and needs a moment to reset. Technology isn’t perfect... yet. Let me know if that helped.

Hi All,

An update from yesterday.

I contacted again my ISP for verifying my connection again.

They checked with their terminal and confirmed my line is fine as usual, and they sent a technician to my home to check the quality of the line and the cables up to my modem. Everything perfect from their side.

They also confirmed (again!!!) they are not throttling any ''Xbox'' or ''Xbox Live'' related service.

But that's not all.

They offered the possibility of the service upgrade, passing from 250Mbps to 350Mbps fiber (download and upload), paying the same monthly fee.

When I returned home at the end of the day, I had to switch off all devices (modem and router) and then the line was upgraded.

Now, the interesting part of the results running Speedtest and running the Xbox Connection Speed statistics.

SpeedTest was showing the line ugrade for both DL and UL speeds, and Xbox DL Speed was upgraded (and matching SpeedTest), while the Xbox UL speed was the same as two days ago (5 / 6Mbps), even with the line upgraded!!!!

It is evident to me there is a sort of capping in the service.
