Xbox Live trial not working as expected

I was excited to try out the Halo Wars 2 beta when it was announced the other day, so I redeemed the 14-day trial card that came with Halo 5. However every time I've tried to find a game in the beta it hasn't let me, and when my friend attempted to invite
me to their HW2 lobby a dialog appeared asking me to buy gold membership. Shouldn't my trial let me play the beta?

New Console purchase come with free trial of live gold?

I just purchased the Star Wars Kinect Console Bundle. I expected it to come with a free trial offer of Xbox Live Gold but found nothing. Was there suppose to be a free trial included?

 

gold trials are very limited with what they can do and cannot do they only offer basic online features. in order to do what you are trying to do you need a full gold subscription sorry

 

If you can't play online using a gold trial then what are they even good for?

 

You can use trials to play online, but some of them will only work for the game they came with and they don't allow all game modes. Since that is a beta, it is only for full gold members.
