Xbox Live Trial (error?)

So I just tried playing the new COD and since I just bought this Xbox, a 14 day Xbox Live trial came with it but it doesn't seem to work. Every time I try to login it just tells me that my account doesn't have a Gold membership which I supposedly do because
of the trial. Please help

What if I'm on a 14-day prepaid code trial and I upgrade to Xbox Live Gold during the trial period to take advantage of a free game offer? Will I get the game?

If you upgrade to Xbox Live Gold during your non-renewing trial period, your Xbox Live Gold membership won't start until the end of your free trial. You won't be eligible to download a currently offered free game until your trial period ends and your paid
membership begins

  expires.
• Prepaid codes for Xbox Live Gold trial subscriptions are only available in select games and bundles.
• You can’t access Games with Gold for the Xbox 360 with this type of Xbox Live Gold trial subscription.
• You can’t stack prepaid codes for Xbox Live Gold trial subscriptions from games or console bundles. This means that you can’t start another trial period before your current trial period has finished. However, you can purchase a new paid Xbox Live Gold subscription
  and start the subscription at any time during the trial period.
• If you don’t currently have a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription, there is no limit to the number of times you can use this type of Xbox Live Gold trial subscription.
