Xbox live subscription not free anymore?

Either my Xbox is acting up or the pandemic/ covid-19 is over and xbox started asking for people to pay subscriptions for xbox live again im sorta mad because I was in a ranked game anmy xbox live was fine for a couple hours and days until today when randomly
i get logged off my ranked game and then everytime i try and go into the game it shows me a loading screen and then I cant play anything and while the loading screen is up it doesnt show an xbox live error it just dissapears like nothing happened and also
when I go to the party it says in order to start a party, I need xbox live gold but it says I have it and im just overwhelmed on the fact it happened during a ranked game

If your subscriptions is finished you must purchase another. In the history of xbox live's existence there have been deals to allow for a cheap entry but it has never been a free service.

Maybe you had a free trial, which would automatically convert to a one month subscription that you would have to pay for at its conclusion.

Xbox gold isn't free, you have to pay for it to play games online

Hello, so the subscription was never free you have to subscribe to xbox live. Yes randomly at times they give it free over the weekend Friday to Sunday midnight but never just FREE! I would go to my microsoft.com account and check under subscriptions and
see if you owe any reoccurring payment for xbox live. If you do you have to pay with debit,credit card or paypal account NOT WITH XBOX LIVE SCRATCH OFF CARD!! If not then you would just need to purchase Xbox live to play online.
