Xbox live servers & ping

They say there are thousands of xbox live servers around the globe, but my ping is still stuck at 209 ms?! And its not just me all of my friends have the same issue. WHAT is going on?!

Dedicated servers? Then why the lag and connection advantages?

Yeah I'm wireless. Router sits pretty close to my Xbox so I guess I'll connect it and see how much that helps. Hope it's not the proximity of MS's servers to where I live. That would suck.Click to expand...

go to settings/network/test multiplayer network/when test completes hold down both triggers and bumpers. Come back and tell me what everything says.
BTW. The ping in the tests is to Redman, Washington not your local servers. Dont know why they did it that way, but they did. Its going to be much higher than a local ping. For example, my Xbox One settings ping at 84ms. Titanfall pings at 35ms. So I ping 84ms to Washington, 35ms to Chicago(local servers). I live about 300 miles from Chicago(local server).

The problem is microsoft not fixing these issues. I'm not a fanboy but I must say I get less lag and "connection" issues than I do on psn (ps3) like I do on xbox live (xbox 360). its a real shame as I do like the xbox 360. as I told the xbox support rep
that I'm not renewing my gold superscription until these issues are resolved (mainly that random xbox live disconnect issue).

Hi There,

So this is your connection to Xbox Live, it may mean that you are pretty far from the closest Xbox Live Servers, I have the same if not higher ping from South Africa. However, this is not a reflection of the ping you will have in-game as you will be using
the game servers and not Xbox Live, so games that you play that have local servers will have a lot lower ping and some may have even higher if you do not have local servers.

Unfortunately DangerousBard provided the link with the ports for the 360 but the One needs some more ports.

This is the proper link for portforwarding on the One:

Additionally take the information that the in the network settings provided ping, is the result of pinging on of the Xbox live servers in the USA. So pings to locally used game servers are normally lots faster.

The ping on the Xbox One network tab does not represent your actual ping contacting the game server. The ping on the Xbox One is most likely trying to ping the Xbox servers in Washington

you cannot determine ping speeds to xbox live servers with a general speed test from a phone, the phone will connect to servers locally.
