xbox live second contoller connection

I have connected both controllers to xbox but when i play live i can connect only one as the other controller which i try to log in on guest keeps saying my existing profile doesnt allow for the second controller

XBOX live issue

Correction, it actually is Test Xbox Live Connection. It's the second option on the top left of the screen. Choose that and it will test you connection to Xbox Live.

Your account is a Silver account. You need a Gold membership in order to play on Live. This will be why you cannot set up the second controller as a guest.

I have a ten day gold account that i got with the game cod ghost but still wont let me sign in on guest

That is a trial membership and only gives some features of a Gold account. Sorry but allowing a guest account is not one of the features available to you.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunatley that didn't work

I have connected the contoller via USB but all that happens is a slight vibration and the xbox button flashes for a minute then the controller shuts off.

The controller is brand new, tried a second one with the same result.

I just updated its filmware (I have a second contoller on the same filmware and it works fine)
