Discus and support Xbox Live requirement for online play needs to end - Microsoft does not offer an online ... in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; Also PC has a lot of piracy compared to consoles, they have to keep it free or else no sale. Games have to stay cheaper to entice a fair chunk of PC... Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by N7 Gh0stz, Jun 20, 2014.

There are more pirates on the PC because there are more PCs than consoles, so of course the number is going to be larger. I wonder what the percentage
would be though? I'm willing to bet they'd be pretty similar.

Those people who pirated Mass Effect 3 on the PC couldn't play it online. They lacked the unique key that would allow them to do so.

Guess what stopped the console pirates from playing Mass Effect 3 online? That's right, absolutely nothing at all.

There we must mention how console games are sometimes pirated weeks in advance (just look at Gears of War 3), whereas you'll have to wait until release day at the earliest for the PC equivalent. GRID Autosport and Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark are
now available to pirate for the Xbox 360, a week before release date.

I never said there weren't console pirates... My point was pirating games IS more prevalent on PC compared to consoles. Yes, the key wasn't available on PC, and most likely wasn't an issue on consoles.

But... I would bet the farm there are less console pirates than PC, even in comparison. And I'd bet even more so now with the X1.

Oh... And in a lot of cases Xbox users who pirated (or received leaked early copies ala Halo 4) were found and banned for doing so.

How many PC gamers does that happen to?

Look... This isn't a console vs. PC jab... It's just an attempt to show the worthiness of LIVE in the bigger picture.

I'll always pay for gold because I see the value in in for me... If you or others don't... Then don't pay it...

Life is not free. There always a fee. Even you are not paying. Those free services you guys and gals speak. The developers are paying the bill and not you. Free dose not mean it good. When you guys and gal get free LIVE. NEXT thing you want MS sale everything
for free. Like the controllers, games, charger and the console itself.

  6. 1. MS is a business

    2. Infrastructure/Security

    3. Development (cloud)

Microsoft provides servers for all Xbox One titles unless the developers elect to use their own, e.g. EA games. That is a big reason for me to continue subscribing to Xbox Live.

  7. Here's the thing you are missing though Xeno. PC pirate gets a game on release where to fully enjoy it, they need to buy it.

Console pirates get the games a week, if not more, before release and in relatively rare occasion get banned for that.

PC pirates need to buy the complete game in order to get the 'online' key. Console pirates can simply buy it from the in-game store. Why do you think online passes are on the marketplace at day of release?

    @ Biscuitz0r

I wasn't missing that point... I even addressed it in my other post. Look, I understand your point, but in the end it's up to each individual to decide whether or not paying for a Gold sub on Live is worth it to them.

Not playing on PC, I've always valued Live's service and stability. We're getting free games on Xbox One now with GwG and new exclusive shows for our bucks... I see the value in it... To me, that's all that matters.

"Console pirates can simply buy it from the in-game store. Why do you think online passes are on the marketplace at day of release?"

    Please explain this...

Why would a console pirate buy anything? As far as I'm aware they use a J Tag... And as I understand, there's certain criteria involved there too. It's primarily used for copying games, getting season passes and DLC still has to be paid for.

As of now, there's no way to mod an Xbox One in the same way... I'd say eventually there will be, but I'll never do it, as I want to support the people who make the games I enjoy playing... Now and into the future... Just like I'm happy to pay for the service
I enjoy now, and hopefully into the future as well.

  10. Not going to go into details because that would be stupid but here is a general over-view.

Most Xbox 360 pirates do so by modding the DVD drive to ignore the security sectors on the game discs. This means that, as long as they are careful, the chances of being banned are really quite slim. This is because the console reports that everything is
    working as it should.

So they get the free games but are still able to connect to Live and download DLC and play online. Aside from being able to play copied discs, the console functions in the same way as an untouched one.

Jtags and RGH consoles essentially have a different operating system installed alongside the real one. This second OS enables the person to run any game right from their hard drive (which they can have sizes up to 1tb) and it ignores DRM, meaning XBLA titles
and DLC can be downloaded and played.

Fortunately however this second OS is incredibly easy for Microsoft to detect and thus ban the console in question. So most people who have them keep them offline or use the 'pirates Live'.

In short one type of modded console can only play copied discs but can be used online relatively safely. The other can play any type of pirated content but can be detected and banned quite easily.

So yes, why do you think online passes are there at day of release on the marketplace? Publishers are essentially tapping the first type of console pirate for some cash. Something that first type of pirate is far more likely to pay. After all $10 for an
online pass or bundled DLC is far cheaper than buying the game proper at $60.

Using Mass Effect 3 again as the example, a console pirate of the first type could pay $10 and play online with their friends. They've 'saved' $50.

A PC pirate doesn't have that option. In order play online, they need to buy the whole game.

Ps. Yes I know EA have removed the online pass requirement now. This was simply an easily explained example.

Ok... So you''ve explained the piracy differences. I was aware of the simple copy style of mod, but I'm not as knowledgeable on the J Tag thing.

Either way, my point in the end is that you either see the value in paying for Live or you don't.

If you don't see the value in it, then stop. If you pay for it you must be getting value from it, or else you wouldn't be doing it...

I've never been affected by any XBL disruptions, but I'm in Australia... Maybe because of the time difference it kind of "skips" us? Either that or I'm just lucky?
