    I have been having multiple issues trying to connect with friends over xbox live recently. Their status stays connecting, party or game chat don't work, and worse my friends join the party muted and there's no way for me to unmute them

    Game chat happening in my party chat

    You may have been in game chat while you where in an Xbox Live Party. Check the features in your party settings to make sure you are in Xbox Live Party chat and not in game chat.

    Party chat will only be available to live players. To chat with cross network gamers the app would probably need to implement some sort of voice or party function.

    This was a known service issue that was recently resolved; if you
    remove your profile from the console, then power cycle the console, and sign back in after that, do you still see the same issue?

    You may have been in game chat while you where in an Xbox Live Party. Check the features in your party settings to make sure you are in Xbox Live Party chat and not in game chat.

    Sorry to hear about your Party Chat issue. Is your DeadCrushader Gamertag the one having an issue with Party Chat? Party Chat is a feature of an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription, so your free account would need to upgrade to take advantage of that feature.
