Xbox Live not staying connected even after opening up my ports.

It started a while ago but every time i turn on my Xbone it says i'm connected but my dashboard isn't fully available. Then when i start playing Destiny or any other game it randomly cuts out. I've opened up and forwarded my ports and set my Xbone to be
on a static IP address but it still doesn't work properly, I've also noticed a trend where my controller will disconnect then shortly afterwards I'll disconnect from the Wi-FI. ANyone having similair problems?

    :)

    Strict NAT type

    I ended up opening the
    ports for the X1
on my router but my NAT is still strict even after restarting my router etc etc.

My router is a Belkin F6D4630-4 v1 and I have a wired connection to my X1

You need to post the make and model number of your modem and router.

It will make it easier for someone to help you if they know this.

Although the fact that both your controller and wi-fi a disconnecting suggests it could be some form of interference causing you to disconnect or even a problem with the console

I'm in the UK and my router is a BT Home Hub 4 while my modem is a BT openreach.

Go into the home hub settings and check if smart setup is turned off.

This smart setup can stop the xbox dashboard from loading properly.

One other symptom is slower download speeds and an MTU of 1500.

Another option is to start Internet Explorer on the xbox one and if prompted complete the setup process.

Personally I would just turn off smart setup.

If you type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar of your web browser it will open the router settings. In the settings you need to find smart setup and turn it off.

Also this router has faulty UPnP. Games made by Activision use Demonware port mapping. Unfortunately the hh5 and most probably the hh4 are not compatible with demonware port mapping and will not open the NAT for these game.

This means that your disconnections in destiny are probably caused by the fact that the ports needed by Destiny are not being opened automatically by UPnP.

After turning off smart setup you would need to use port forwarding to forward a few ports to the xbox one just so that Activision games like Destiny and Call of Duty can have open NATs.

I can't give you step by step instructions for this unfortunately because I binned my home hub months ago because of incompatibilty and now use my own router which is connected to the openreach modem and have a consistently open NAT and absolutlely no disconnections
in Destiny apart from the rare ones due to server problems.

The ports you would need to forward are 3075 and 3076 for Call of duty and port 1200 for Destiny. There may be other ports needed for destiny as well but I don't know what they are.

Thank for the reply, i disabled smart setup and it worked for the evening much to my delight. But this morning it's cutting out again. I believe it may be because i haven't forwarded my ports correctly since i don't fully understand how to. Do you have a
website of guide that tells me how to? I used portforward.com but they're a bit vague when it comes to how you type it out.

Or it may be i have a faulty Xbone and need to replace it, bit stupid that microsoft can't get their machines working right.

Yes that looks correct although you shouldn't forward port 80 as that is needed by web browsers on you PC so it's already open.

According to the Bungie website these are the ports needed for Destiny.

    53, 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500, 1200, 1001

So make sure all them ports are forwarded and also forward port 3075 and 3076 if you own Call of Duty Ghosts or intend to get advanced warfare.

I forwarded port 80 becuase every portforwarding guide told me to, I've opened up all the ports and have a open NAT type but i still get randomly disconnected. I talked to a support person yesterday and seemed to fix it by doing a hard restart but this morning
it started having issues again, in another thread people said to turn on the DMZ but when i did that it just messed up my console's connection.

Unfortunately you are not the first person I have seen struggling to get destiny working properly on the home hub.

I've seen it on the BT forums and that person ended up buying a new router.

Beasically the home hubs 4 and 5 are the worst routers ever created. They are not designed for gaming at all. They don't work properly for any activision games on either ps3, ps4 or xbox one.All BT care about is that people can connect their PC's and tablets
to it. They haven't thought about gaming at all.

Even the home hub 3's are better and they are bad.

First just check my post in this thread just to make sure you are doing the port forwarding properly

    community.bt.com/.../1109194

The thread was to open the NAT on call of duty Ghosts when it required only port 3075 but you can use that as a guide to make sure you have ports forwarded properly for destiny.

If after confirming that everything is done properly you still have problems with destiny then we can only assume that the home hub is a piece of junk and is just not compatible with Destiny at all.

Another alternative would be to factory reset the hub then try setting up the DMZ again

THanks for the port forwarding guide, i have done it properly. It's strange that you mention how the router isn't good for gaming, i've had it for my 360 for over a year now and it works fine. Unless it's just the Xbone it can't connect to.

Xbox Live not staying connected even after opening up my ports.

It struggles with any game that uses demonware port mapping.

Basically any activision game on xbox one, ps3 and ps4.

Activision games on 360 dont use demonware port mapping so they normally work fine.

It also struggles if you own both a 360 and x1 as NATs for x1 or 360 dashboards may go strict.
