Xbox Live not available in Panama?

I bought an Xbox 360 from a guy in Panama that had a full gold account. The console had full live access previously. Now that I created a new Xbox Live Gold account, it says that Xbox Live is not available for consoles in my region. That sounds like bs.
Something is definitely wrong here. I have a lot of friends with Xbox 360 and One's down here that all play online. I think I need some help from someone that knows what is going on. Thanks to everybody in advance.

No true RED SHIFT1, there are cheaper subs available, like the 1 month and 3 month subs and Pre-Paid Codes that can be bought from retailers. There are also multiple offers available through the Xbox Dashboard which offer heavily discounted subscriptions.

yep...you can only play online multiplayer with a gold sub for $60.

 

Consoles are region locked in certain areas. If it is an american console then it can only be played in america. Im not sure if its just to keep sales in country or not.

 

No this console was sold and bought in Panama. And they are selling tons of them in the country. What really erks me is that they are selling these in masses in Panama, but then don't want to support people from the country signing up for XBOX Live. They
took my credit card payment very easily, but then I couldn't log in because my region wasn't supported. Most people that buy XBOX here get surprised to find out that they are ***, so the only option for them is to sign up with a credit card with a U.S. billing
address. I find it ridiculous that they have to jump through hoops like this to be able to use a product that they bought and expected to use here. If this is the case, they shouldn't be selling them here in the first place.

 

That's not necessarily true, oupyee. The region lock on consoles apply only to video games and their specific regions (ie. disc based games). It's the difference between NTSC and PAL, etc.

At this time I do not believe that there is Live available in Panama. When you purchased the console the person probably had their gamertag set up for a different region such as the US.

The reason that certain gaming items such as Live or specific games are not available in your region is more due to governmental restrictions than Xbox just denying having it there.

If you would like changes to be made then you should definitely contact your local government and petition them to allow it in your area.

 

After doing more research the consoles aren't actually region locked aside from china. Xbox doesn't instil a region lock but some games as onyx said do.

 

I live in Panama and my Xbox Live account is based in the US. That is for now the only way to use Xbox live from here. Microsoft should open that worldwide by now.
