    my friend lets be objective here, Xbox is a business. Xbox is here to provide the best service in the industry, but in a way where thy don't loose any money. did you know that PlayStation users also have to pay to be able to play online?

    Games with gold,beta's,demo's etc. all have to be paid for & that's some of the things a gold subscription goes towards.

    PSN was free on the PlayStation 3 & to be honest it was pretty bad.PSN is only now starting to catch up with xbox live & that's because you now need to pay a sub to play on PSN.

    My budget is tight but I can manage £20 per year for xbox live

    Well Microsoft makes a lot of money anyways plus in a Xbox Live Gold Membership there is Games with Gold,Cloud Saved Games,access to betas or demos of games so too be honest I think Xbox Live would do even better with multiplayer being free

    Sorry but xbox live is fine the way it is & should not be made free.

    It's not like it's expensive anyway.
