Xbox Live Message question

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, I looked for a better place but couldn't find one and this site loads extremely slow for me, anyway the question-

So I got a message sent to me from "Xbox Live" and I don't think it's legit and was curious if anyone else got one. It's from "Xbox Live" and was sent via Xbox message, the avatar is a little white dude with the black t-shirt with the gold dollar chain.
the message says- "We know you experienced an issue signing in on your Xbox One on 3/11/2014. We apologize and will soon give you 7 days of Xbox Live Gold for your inconvenience"



Now I really don't care about the 7days of gold all that much but I'm just worried that it's some kind of scam. I have received messages from xbox live before but they never had an avatar, it just seems weird.

Still havent received the Gears codes for 1/2/3

They message you the codes through xbox live.

 

This may be a derp question but: How do I download Gears 2, 3 and Judgement?

Look in your Xbox Live messages on your Xbox One people!!!

 

I am always wary of those too.

Try accessing that message via this site,hold your mouse over your gamertag at the top right of the page.

Sometimes the message will say "you can only read this message on your console", these ones are definitely from xbox live.

Have you actually had any issues signing in that would warrant a free gift?

 

I did actually have trouble on 3/11 and couldn't sign in on XB1 for about 5-6 hours but I could on 360. Quite a few of my friends had the same problem but thus far non of them have received this message.

The profile definitely looks odd.

maybe worth sending a private message to one of the moderators on here to see if they know any different.

Cloudstrife is a good one thats on quite often,he has posted in this thread.

Use the private message envelope on his post,rather than sending him an xbox live message.

He may not know any more than us,but its worth a try.

Lobstah, On the face of it, it does look legit simply because there is no option to reply to the message. I will pass this up just to make sure. In the mean time, if anyone else reading this has the same issue, please let me know. Otherwise, stay tuned and
I will update both here and in PM so everyone knows the outcome.

Update: Can I ask how you managed to grab a link to the profile? If you could also send me a copy of the link over in PM? I can't seem to find one that links to the 'Xbox Live' profile.

 

Update 2: I had an old message from Xbox Live and followed that to the profile. On that profile I see the same, a dude with a black shirt and the $ chain around his neck. Which means the message you got is legit

Xbox live has changed their avatar.

Just said it if you haven't noticed.

 

I still see a dude with a black shirt, gold "$" chain and some funny brown trousers.

 

That is Xbox Live, as it's also in the avatar options.
