xbox live latency issues

@Heno107 - Your ping/delay is normal.

If you were to compare ping from your computer, you would have to change the location of the testserver, to a server located in Seattle, WA (US).

The pingtest on your computer usually, by default, elects a testserver based on best ping. This server can be located as close as a couple of kilometers from where you live.

Your Xbox One is not trying to send a ping to a close-by testserver, to test basic IP connectivity. Instead, the ping, or echo, that your console sends out is aimed towards a server located in Seattle, WA (US).

So, next time you run pingtest/speedtest on your computer, change the location of server, to a server located in Seattle. Let me guess, roughly the same outcome (~160ms)?

Keep in mind, this is only a test for basic IP connectivity, from layer 3 (IP) and down the stack.

If both your computer and your Xbox One are set up the same way (wired directly to your router), they shouldn't differ in such way, in regard to DL/UP speeds.

 

so are u saying that there is no difference in ping really? seeing as they connect to different servers?

 

I think what he is saying is that there will be a difference in ping rates because you are connected to different servers in very different locations.

The only difference depends on the location of the server that you try to reach.

If you were to ping your router's LAN IP address from your computer, the time it would take for the packet to reach your router's LAN interface, and back would fall within 1-2 ms (depending on your network infrastructure).

Now, think broader. Think outside of your LAN (WAN). A longer distance a packet has to travel to reach its destination, the longer it will also take for the packet to reach its destination, and back to the originating host (round-trip time).

@taidara is my ping level not what will cause my game to lag?? I also understand it will take longer to get to a different location..................... I just wonder why a multi-billion dollar company cant offer a service that actually works to the best
of its abilities, i.e setting up servers worldwide...

will often have a negative impact on your gaming experience. Luckily though, for the vast majority of games out there, you'll always have the option to rematch and connect to a host with better network performance and being closer to you.

Most games these days still depends on peer to peer-ish type of network architecture, such as listening servers. So, for players in a game that depends on peer to peer, one of these clients get elected as the host of the game/match, and become the server you
connect to. That could well be your neighbor. Who knows.

You will also find a varity of games which runs off an centralized server and act as a dedicated role for the state of the game. Those are often spread across US and Europe. But the server you're referring to has no relevance to your initial question, as this
particular server is not set up as a "gaming" server.
