    Xbox live in game chat and party chat


    Hey! So ever since I have used discord on my Xbox it hasn’t let me join a party or talk in an in game voice channel. I do not own a pc, although I use my Xbox console and Xbox mobile app. After the first call with a friend, I disconnected and ever since the join party button has been greyed out and I can not click it, and whenever I try an use in game voice chat, it says I’m in an Xbox live party and that I have to leave the party or select the option to use in game chat. I know I’m not in a party, but it still says I am. I have tried restarting my console, getting friends to send party invites, logging out and then back in and even joining parties on my phone. This is an Xbox one, not series S/X. How can I fix this?

    Game chat happening in my party chat

    You may have been in game chat while you where in an Xbox Live Party. Check the features in your party settings to make sure you are in Xbox Live Party chat and not in game chat.

    Are you streaming to Twitch directly from the Twitch app on the Xbox? Or are you streaming your Xbox One to your PC through the Xbox Console Companion app? Are you using party chat on the Xbox, or a party through the Xbox Companion app?

    What you are describing is by design using the Xbox Live party chats because the servers for the chat are separate from the in-game chat servers. Xbox Live parties effectively mute in-game chat, and mute yourself from in-game chat as well because as I mentioned
    previously, party chats and in-game chats run on different servers. Xbox Live parties are more private channels for chatting with friends, so the muting aspect is by design. I believe this is why many Twitch streamers use Discord since you can hear both the
    Discord chat and in-game chat at the same time.

    are you referring to Xbox Live Party chat, or in game chat, because they are 2 different things.

    I swear, Party Chat killed the XBL community. Everyone is always in Party Chat with their IRL friends.
