Xbox Live Gold

Earlier, my dad gifted my account a 3-month subscription to Xbox Live Gold and I am still unable to access any multiplayer games. I've tried looking at other forums and sites but have had no answer to this question. I would appreciate if there is some sort
of fixing this. My Xbox name if needed is Sonic Tommy T, and if I am unable to receive some sort of subscription of which was paid for, i would like some sort of refund,
