    Xbox Live Gold Sharing Requiring Sign-in


    Hello, everyone.

    Thank you in advance for your help.

    I have been sharing Xbox Live Gold with one other Xbox (two Xbox's total) for several years and it's always worked without a hitch. This weekend, I bought an Xbox One X to replace one of my old Xbox units that I hadn't been using for some time. Since then, my son's Xbox cannot use my Gold membership unless I am actively signed into his Xbox using my account. This, of course, requires me to sign out of the Xbox One X which means I can not play something on my account while he's playing on his account (two separate accounts, he is in my Family Group).

    I have made 100% sure that his Xbox is set as my Home Xbox.

    The moment I sign out of his Xbox, he is given errors in anything requiring Gold that he needs to sign up for a membership. He also loses access to my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership.

    I've checked the Home Xbox setting. I rebooted both Xbox accounts. I double checked that the new Xbox One X is not set as my Home Xbox. I double checked that my account is in good standing. If I'm signed in actively to his Xbox, everything works on his account like it used to.

    Thanks in advance for your help. I'd like to avoid factory resetting for the time being as that would be unlikely to affect an account-level issue. As a last resort, of course, I can give that a shot.

    You may be signed into Live, but do you have a gold subscription on your account? Gold is required to use the cloud on the 360. While you can share your husband's gold on the One, gold is not shared on the 360.

    You cannot share across consoles. Game sharing/Gold sharing is meant for sharing games on one console.

    You will need two subscriptions. You may also have both profiles signed in on the console that’s designated as ‘Home’, this way, both parties can access the same games.

    However, if someone wants to play on the other console and signs out of the one with gold sharing, they will no longer have access to the benefits of Gold sharing and would require a separate XBL subscription to play.

    To add onto Genesis' post, do you have Xbox Live Gold? If not, that would be required to be playing online as well. You can check your subscription status on
    Microsoft Commerce. If you are sharing Xbox Live Gold with another account on your profile, be sure that the account with Xbox Live Gold is signed-in while you play.

    Hey there!

    If your child is signed in with their account on the Xbox set as your profile’s home device, they will have Gold sharing enabled.

    Then you just sign in on another Xbox and you both will be able to use Xbox Live Gold services.
