XBox Live Gold Redeem Code not working?

I received a 12-month Xbox Live Gold membership card during christmas. When i go to redeem it, I receive this error message:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed
by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors>
tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

I've seen other posts with this sort of error but the only suggested solution is to clear the browser cache which I've done. I've also attempted to redeem on other computers and on different networks. It seems to be just my account. Is there any solution
so that I can get my gold redeemed?

I have, I select choose different payment option on the Payment options section and it says the card is not for that kind of offer.

Just got it, had to go through the account section in the systems tab. Still don't know about why I couldn't do it on the PC but thanks for the assistance!

You wouldn't need to choose a payment option using a redeem code. You just have to go to redeem code and enter the code. If you're on the 360, just press the guide button on the controller and go to the far left tab and Redeem code. Then type the code in
there.

Hi, I am having the problem that I can't access any online gaming or party chat. It says I need a gold membership, so I presumed it must have expired. I have tried to use a trial, I have held it up to the Kinect and it has registered but said I already have
a gold membership why not pass the code to a friend. I have then tried today to access online and it once again says I need a good membership. I have entered the code manually both on the internet and console. Still it says I have a good membership.

I feel like I'm getting no where and going around in a loop. Please help

Mine did not work it said it worked then my old did not work when i was trying to play online...i tried to redeem it again but it said code already redeemed. Microsoft needs to improve their crappy service

Same thing happened to me. My email says i'm a gold member, my console says i'm a gold member yet i cant access any gold features!

I don't know if anyone else already posted the solution to this, but a friend had the same issue with the same error. The problem was, he was trying to redeem a code over a trial gold. Live Gold and Gold Trial, doesn't mix up, that's why the solution is
to let the gold subsciption end and then redeem the code. So if you have a Live Gold and try to redeem a Trial code (like the one included with the xbox) or the other way around, it won't work.

I'm having trouble redeeming Xbox Live Gold 12 months. Returns the code: 801613c9. I've tried with 2 Xbox Live Gold Pre-Paid and did not work, always returns the same error.

When you try to access Games with Gold, make sure you're using the gamertag that has the Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. If you redeemed a promotional Xbox Live Gold code as
part of your subscription, you won't be eligible for Games with Gold. If you used a prepaid code to sign up for Xbox Live Gold, make sure it was successfully redeemed.

Did you redeem the code on the Xbox 360 console? If you did, I would suggest redeeming the code on your computer.

You can redeem all types of prepaid codes, including Xbox gift cards, Xbox Live gold cards, and Xbox Music Pass cards, on a computer and have them applied to your account immediately. Here’s how:

1. Go to www.xbox.com

2. Sign in

3. Go to the "Xbox Live Gold" tab and click "Redeem Code"

That's it! Your Gold membership will be applied instantly.

Okay, quick update! I tried redeeming the code with a different account which doesn't have Live Gold and it works. I didn't click Redeem but it does work. This leads me to believe that I can't redeem a game I already have through Games With Gold.
