Xbox live gold prepaid card wont activate

I bought an xbox live gold prepaid card yesterday at a walkmart and tried to redeem it but a message stating that the code had not been activated and to contact the merchant to activate it came up. I went back to see what was up but they said that the
receipt i had confirmed that the code was active so i waited 24 hours and tried again but no success. So i went back to the walmart again and they refunded and resold the same code to me saying this was all they could do, is there any way to fix this code,

Attempting to use a prepaid xbox live gold 12 months card to renew my subscription but it wont let me. What options do I have?

That's weird, as you do need an active Gold membership to participate in parties and play online Multiplayer.

When you go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/ does the website show you an active Gold membership?

If not, you should
contact the official support for further advice.

The method to contact an actual human being can be a bit troublesome. If you get a box with a virtual assistant, click on "See other options"

Then try different categories, and as you see a "Show contact options", find an option that lets you "Chat with Xbox support" or "Request a callback".

Be aware, that the options to chat with Xbox support and to request a callback are also dependent on the time of day and times of operations for the support in your country.

Ok so the code still says it's not active but i am currently able to join a party with a friend of my so to test this out i went on gears of war 4 and tried to join a multiplayer matchmaking game and it let me play online with other players but my account
says i don't have a gold membership and i still don't get the perks of having a gold membership. Is my account bugged or something cause now im getting concerned.
