    I bought a xbox live gold card for 6 months but it does not let me play online, I tried it with fornite and halo 5 but it tells me that I do not have the necessary permissions.

    Xbox Live Confusion?

    Xbox Live is free.

    You can make a Gold account, or a Silver account.

    The Gold account gives you access to access to play online, along with free monthly games and weekly deals. This has a fee.

    The Silver account gives you access to Xbox Live and apps, but you just can't play online or get the free games. This is free.

    you need Xbox live gold to play online, as rainbow six is an online only game as far as I know, you need gold to play it

    Xbox live gold is included in GamePass ultimate

    No. They are not making Xbox Live Gold free. They are only make games that are "free to play" such as fortnite for example, not require you to have gold to play online.

    Other games that are not "free to play" will still require a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to play them online.

    There is no date announced yet for when free to play games could be played online without gold.

    To play online you need Xbox live GOLD. If you have the free account or the Xbox live silver account then you can't play online. So I'm sorry but you're going to have to pay for Xbox live Gold in order to play online. I hope this helped!

    Unfortunately, you need an active Xbox Live Gold membership to play with others online. Fortnite:Battle Royale is of course a free-to-play game but in order to play online Xbox Live Gold is required.
