Xbox Live Gold Membership Profile Issues

I'm hoping someone on the forums can assist; the live support chat was literally an hour of back and forth and ended up being a complete waste of my time.

The encounter ended with the rep offering me to cancel the Gold membership and give me a refund (no fix).

Background:

My account originally was an Xbox Live Family Gold membership. I understand that membership package has gone away and it's now just Live Gold, and the Live membership is essentially tied to the Xbox. Any profile downloaded onto the Xbox can then use the Live
Gold service associated with that Xbox, right?

Well, my latest membership expired and the card associated with it has since changed due to expiration. I renewed for $59.99 and then found that only my account (the adult/parent account) can access Xbox Live, the two child gamertag profiles cannot. I have
tried playing with the permissions and changing them to fully unrestricted, but to no avail. The chat support had me delete the caches, which I did. I then removed all of the profiles and re-downloaded them - nothing worked. I can get on live with my profile
and gamertage no problem, but my two kids cannot (regardless of permission settings).

The chat rep mentioned something about issues with account linking within the family plans as one of the driving reasons for getting rid of the Family gold package. I was trying to ask and understand how that was relevant to my current situation if it Family
Gold has gone away, but I didn't get an understandable answer. I'm assuming there's some bug with my account as a whole being established under the old Family plan and recent changes?

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have an active Live Gold membership. When I log into account.xbox.com I see all three of the gamertags associated with my account and they're all showing and appear to be fine on the Xbox. There's no Live access for two of
the three though. I actually updated the payment info within my profile, which I'm assuming is why only mine is working, however why is it not propagating to the other two profiles!?

On the 360 each account has to have it's own subscription. Gold is not shared on the console. On the One, you can share gold with all accounts on the console.

 

I am having the same problem. Can anyone confirm Smwutches answer? Seems a little ridiculous that I can share an account across the XBONE but then I need to pay an additional $240 a year for the other four people in my family to use the 360...

Keep in mind that you now only need gold if you are planning to play online or take part in games with gold. If you have any accounts that are just playing single player or using apps, you don't need gold. You can also purchase gold subscriptions cheaper
by purchasing prepaid cards. There are almost always sales online for about $30-$40 for a year of gold.

 

Oh, good, so it will only cost me an extra $120-$160 a year so that my kids can keep gaming on the OLD system, but on the new system everyone can play for $60 a year. I read other posts on the forum and no one else seems to see the disconnect in logic
here. Seems like Microsoft is trying to punish anyone who is keeping their old system to drive people to the new system, but we shelled out the dough for the new system and now can't use the old system as a family unless we pay through the nose.

And how long before Microsoft changes the rules again and does away with the HOME concept on XBOX ONE? We all know they will.

Anyway, thanks for the info Smwutches. It's just really disappointing. Perhaps I can cancel my membership and buy one for my eldest son so at least he'll be happy. I don't play online that much, but it used to be nice to be able to on occasion.
