Xbox Live Gold membership. I thought it worked like a family membership too??

OK, so I have an Xbox One and 2 360's.

I've always had the family membership and my son and I had our Live profiles on our 2 360's. So of course then, the One came out and the crazy live membership changes occurred.

I was under the impression at that time that I would have both profiles on my Xbox One (his and mine) and then they could be used on the 2 360's as well? My profile works on my 360, but my son's won't work on either of the 2 360's. (they both are fine on
    the One)

Was I wrong in my understanding? Do I really have to buy him a separate Live membership so he can use gold on his console?

Any help would sure be awesome. I did do a search, and got about a krillion results, but none that I went through were what I'm looking for.

    :)

    Xbox One Price drop

I think so yes but for a single xbox, it takes the single live account and all users can access features behind the paywall as if they had gold on that console.

arthurdentpc has 3 xbox's tho, and the old "family" bundle allowed each user to effectively have their own gold membership, so gold on each user which translated to gold on each console, now its gold to anyone on the single xbox....

So I assume on single xbox families the new system is much better, but on multiple xbox families its not as good. Its not super clear tho how this new gold system will work on xbox one, but it does read like arthur is shafted rather unfairly in this new scenario.

Microsoft just ended the Family Plan for good

Microsoft sent this announcement via e-mail to all Family Plan members. This is terrible for people who have more than one console. Also note (in bold) that this answers the questions about the Gold Live sharing on multiple consoles. So if you plan to throw out your 360's and game library and have you family glued to one Xbox One then you are good. Once you go that friends house your family cannot play in Live on either console unless you have an additional sub. Terrible.

Your account will work on both consoles as you are the main account on the xbox one.

Yours sons account will work on the xbox one as a secondary account with all gold benefits.

Your son would need to buy gold again to be a gold member on the 360.
