Xbox Live Gold membership account problem

Hello.

So, upon firstly buying the Xbox, the email address registered to set the account up was typed in wrong. Nevertheless, the account continued merrily installing games and playing them. I bought the account an Xbox Live Gold Membership for xmas, unaware of
these problems. We have since set up a new account on the same xbox (the one I'm typing this from), but it won't recognise our Xbox Live Gold Membership, saying that is already registered to another account. Given that you do not allow a facility where I can
actually talk to someone and go through this in easy steps, can you please explain in idiot proof language how I can change my membership from that account to this?

How to Turn off auto renewal or cancel Xbox LIVE membership

How to turn off auto renewal

It is recommended that you cancel your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership using the option of turning off automatic renewal. If auto renewal is "off", your membership will expire at the end of its current term.

Steps to follow:

1) If you are not already signed in, click Sign In at the upper right hand corner and sign in using your Microsoft account.

2) Proceed to My Account.

3) Click Change next to automatic renewal. Change the setting to OFF

You will be able to continue enjoying all the benefits of Xbox LIVE Gold Membership until your paid membership time expires.

Note:

If you want to cancel or disable your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership immediately, you should contact Xbox support. Use the Request a Call from Support option on the official Xbox Contact Us page. Your account cannot be canceled through chat or email.

If you disable your account immediately, you will lose the time remaining on your membership subscription.

If you are on a 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract, and you want to cancel before the end of the 2 years, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and other applicable taxes. Once the two-year agreement period is over, your account will not be renewed automatically.

You can cancel the 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract using the option of self-cancel your subscription on Xbox.com

You can't transfer a membership from one account to another. You may be able to get support to help you but no one in the forums has the ability to do anything with this issue. Contact Us | Xbox Support

Unfortunately it is intended that Trials do not stack
with existing memberships. It's also mentioned on the support page Xbox Live Gold trial memberships

The Xbox Live Gold trial membership is associated with a single gamertag.

You can't add an Xbox Live Gold trial membership to an existing membership.

Only three trial accounts are available per console. This limitation cannot be reset.

After a user has created three trial accounts on their console, the user no longer receives a message that provides the opportunity to create an Xbox Live Gold trial account.

To sign up for the Xbox Live Gold trial membership, you must add a payment method to your account.

This also works in a vice versa way meaning that if you have a trial membership it will be lost if you purchase a gold membership

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Yes, the number on the upper right of your GamerTag is the tenure of your Xbox Gold Live account.

It is a continuous count, so it will reset if there is a lapse in the membership.

Therefore, if you are currently a Free/Silver member, and start a Gold Live membership, the tenure will be zero.

The Xbox LIVE Gold trial membership provides temporary access to the features of Xbox LIVE, including online multiplayer gaming.

When you set up an Xbox One or Xbox 360 console, you follow an account creation sign-up process so that you can access Xbox Live Free membership features, assuming that you have a broadband Internet connection. At the end of the account creation process,
you can upgrade to a Gold membership. If you don’t upgrade, you can receive a free Gold trial.

The Gold trial is associated with a single gamertag and can’t be added to an existing membership. A total of three trial accounts are available per console, and this limitation cannot be reset. After a user has created three trial accounts, the user no longer

To use the Gold trial, you must add a payment instrument to your account.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to create an Xbox Live Gold account without the Xbox Live Gold membership, and that goes for the 360 accounts as well.
